This is my favorite site for finding out what diseases and pests are most prevalent in which areas in Massachusetts. It also tells you which plants are most affected by the above; for example, winter moth is attacking many species of maples. There are also photos of "featured pests" at various stages of development.

The kids painted the plain blue plastic rain barrels with vines, flowers, birds and scenes of summer. This will make them more attractive, and they will add to other great artistic improvements in the courtyard such as the compost bin and tile murals on the facing side of the courtyard.

Spring may really be just around the corner. It came last year: here is proof! Spring is coming any day now. It did last year: here is proof! (The photo was taken in mid-April 2010)

In the foreground are Menton tulips with 'Blue Jacket' hyacinths sprinkled around them. In the background, an oakleaf hydrangea is just leafing out. It will bloom all summer, along with long-blooming perennials to pick up where the spring bulbs left off.
