Every detail of a retail space has a job to do. In this case, the messaging on the window display is there, but even standing right in front of it, it’s nearly impossible to read. Small type, a busy material behind it, and a display meant to be viewed from a distance all work against the message.
And that’s an important part of retail design: something can look great up close and still fail in the environment where customers actually experience it.
Before putting text in a window, ask:
→ Can someone read it from the sidewalk?
→ Is there enough contrast?
→ Can they understand the message in a few seconds?
→ Does the design account for reflections, screens, textures, and other visual distractions?
Because your customer shouldn’t have to stop, squint, and pull out their phone to figure out what your window is trying to say.
