This weekโ€™s species spotlight is on another new species at Seven Bends Nursery!

Black Root, scientifically known as Veronicastrum virginicum, is a tall elegant perennial with whorled leaves and white candelabra-like blooms. The dark green leaves are stunning alongside these light colored blooms.

Naturally found in open woodlands or moist meadows, Black Root prefers full sun and dry to medium soils. This species is a terrific choice in pollinator, cottage and cutting gardens!

Black Root attracts a variety of pollinators including butterflies, moths, sphecid wasps, syrphid flies and both short and long tongued bees!

This weekโ€™s species spotlight is on another species new to Seven Bends Nursery!

Magnolia tripetala, also known as Umbrella Magnolia, gets its name for its huge ovate to oblong leaves that grow in whorled form at the end of their branches resembling the ribs and spokes of an umbrella! The magic of Umbrella Magnolia doesnโ€™t end at their two foot long leaves though. Umbrella Magnolias also bloom large white flowers in summer that produce bright pink seed pods in fall.

Naturally found growing in rich, moist woodlands along ravines, streams and slopes, Umbrella Magnolia is only found in Appalachian mountains and prefer part to full sun and medium to moist soils. This tree makes for a great planting in woodlands, woodland edges or around waterways. This tree is sure to make a statement whether from their leaves, large blooms or bright fruits!

Want to plant Umbrella Magnolia in your landscape? You can order here on our webstore:
