Avocados in Maryland? 🥑

Turns out they’re possible in more places than I thought.

This Cold Hardy Avocado is already putting on fresh new growth here on my Zone 7a deck garden, and now I’m curious to see how it does over the next few years.

If you want more flowers, don’t skip this step.

I count up — one, two, three sets of leaves.

Then I pinch right above the third.

This tells the plant to branch out instead of growing tall.

More branches means more blooms all season long. 🌸🌺🌼

One thing container gardening has taught me is that you don’t need more space to grow more food.

You just need to think one season ahead.

This week I harvested celery and replaced it with peppers. I pulled flowering watercress and planted bush beans. And as my lettuce fades in the summer heat, cucumbers, melons, and eggplant are ready to take its place.

Every harvest creates space for another harvest.

That’s how a small deck keeps producing all season long.
