Tomorrow my baby turns 5! I’m trying to honor all his special birthday requests stating with this homemade celebration challah. I hope he loves all his other surprises as much as this bread.
FYI, we did make French toast out of the leftovers this morning, and yes it was delicious.

Over the last few days I’ve gone back and forth over what I should post and how I can express my love and support for the black community. Does reposting one of the same 10 memes circulating on social media exempt me from having to learn more? Teach more? Do more? Does reposting a video mean I’m “off the hook” and can go back to posting my regular content? If I choose to share my own voice, what can I say? How do I say it? There is no clear answer or road map for how and what to post. BUT what I can say, and what I do know is that as a Jewish family we tell our son every single day that there are lots of different kinds of people in this world. We all look different and believe different and that’s ok, but it is our responsibility as Jews and humans to give tzedakah (a moral obligation to give and help those in need), to do tikun olam (acts of kindness to repair the world), to perform acts of chesed (loving-kindness), to have kavod (honor and respect) for our peers, and lastly to speak the truth, emet (yes, which we named our son after). We are obligated to implement and practice these virtues and teach them to future generations. I want to share my thoughts sincerely and add value to the conversation. I hope and pray that we can all hear each other and respect each other no matter what color, race, or religion.

This weekend I had to deal with a family emergency that left me physically and mentally drained. Thankfully everything is fine, but as a result I decided to take a short break from my regular clients and work on a few things for my favorite dude. I’m making a few updates to his big boy room and this is the overall outcome. Since his nursery was never that “baby” there isn’t much to do, a new bed, stars on the wall, and a nightstand. One of the more difficult choices has been the new light fixture I want to add. Check out my stories for a more complete vision of the room and to vote for your favorite light. I’ve also been starting to plan his 4th birthday party... I can’t believe it!!
