RVA Construction, Inc.

RVA Construction, Inc. Custom Home Construction and Remodeling Firm Bob proudly retired in December 2010 after many successful years in business. RVA Construction, Inc,.

RVA Construction, Inc., (formerly Van Auken Construction) was founded in 1965, by Robert E Van Auken, who graduated from one of the first construction programs at Michigan State University. For forty-five years, Bob worked to build a successful business that focused on the custom home designs of any size and innovative remodeling. Bob was named Builder of the Year by the Home Builders Association

in Saginaw, and served on the association’s board of directors for many years. In 2010, Doug Robertson purchased the company of Van Auken Construction, Inc., upon Bob’s retirement. Doug has been a long standing and vested employee at the company for over twenty years working as the lead carpenter and site manager for all of their projects. If any of you have had the opportunity to have RVA Van Auken Construction complete a project for you, then you have certainly met Doug, and you know that he has the expertise it takes and the hands-on-feel for creating living spaces that are both beautiful to the eye and right for the family. He is not only gifted and talented in his custom finish work and craftsmanship, but as the company’s owner and production manager, has the expertise to plan, direct, and coordinate all the phases of your project and oversee its organization and implementation. Doug and his wife, Barb work together as a team meeting with clients at their homes and each picking up different perspectives when speaking with them, they remain personally involved throughout the entire building project. Both Doug and Barb will assist you from the initial sale, design phase, specs, prints, and pricing, right to the final walk through. Barb will also accompany you, if you like, by “shopping with you” as you select cabinets, flooring, fixtures, and those all important decisions for your home. She occasionally works with Professional Women in Building, and the Saginaw Home Builders Association, throughout the year, serving on the Kitchen Walk board and various sponsored events. She thoroughly enjoys meeting new people and making new friends along the way. Secretary, Connie Gottschalk, is a life-long resident of Saginaw and has worked as the company’s secretary since February 2007. She is an integral part of the company and knows the industry well. Connie is a member of, Professional Women in Building, through the Saginaw Home Builders Association. She thoroughly enjoys her work and is very knowledgeable and eager to assist you in any way she can

I am sharing this video today in hopes that it will educate, inspire, and initiate an entirely different way of thinking about your life, the lives of others, and the great big world we live in. How you, me, and everyone else, can make an impact. For quite some time I used to be stagnant in my way of thinking because I couldn't figure out how to "fix everything" Then while reading a book, the author, Greg Boyd, had the same issue. He brought to my attention that he suffered from the same thing, but went on to explain how he realized that although he couldn't "fix everything" he could make an impact on his own circle of awareness. At one time, I may have thought the same thing... the coat is great, but what about the bigger problem?? Hence, leaving me stagnant, doing nothing. I challenge you all to think about where you get your self-worth from. I learned this about 11 years ago when I lost my son, Josh and Ben became a new creation, this was followed by my mother's death which was just as devastating for me. I was getting my self-worth from other people, that's okay, but we can be so much more when we venture beyond that. I think this is young lady recognized a problem, she referred to it as a "bandaid for a systemic issue" sounds too big to fix, doesn't it? May as well quit, they don't even appreciate it..... the list goes on. She did NOT do that, but instead turned an already great idea into a fantastic idea. The world needs more people like her. Challenge yourselves to look beyond your own busy schedules, work, sports, clubs and pay attention to the world around you. Opportunities are everywhere. Get connected with each other. Thought this was worth sharing and thank you for listening.

The World needs a LOT more of this.

Have you ever wondered where the granite slabs used for countertops come from? The process of bringing Mother Nature's art to market is complex and we are lucky to have such ample choices to grace our homes.

Some of you may remember this house we built last fall. Well, we just finished the matching garden shed and the home owners just finished the landscaping. It was too awesome cute not to share. After grass and plants have had time to establish themselves this place is going to be even more fantastic than it already is. Perhaps you can visit it in the fall Parade of Homes.

So often we are asked about lighting when remodeling a kitchen. There are so many options available now that weren't twenty years ago. It is difficult for some people to understand how this lighting can be helpful, decorative, or just set the tone for the type of room they are trying to create. This article from www.houzz.com is very helpful, we hope it helps "shed some light" on your next project.

How many, how big, and how high? Tips for choosing kitchen pendant lights

This basement is a recent project of ours. The homeowner had a visions of what she wanted and as a team we took it from there. It started out with a bit of an Irish Pub atmosphere, but is now ready to receive students for music lessons and entertainment for the family. This was a very pleasant project, the homeowners spoiled the guys with banana bread, brownies and cookies; I know they will miss working for these wonderful people.
