As the new owners of Black Mountain Handyman, we wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves a little bit more!

Nathan Gruver joined Black Mountain Handyman early in 2020 and is a dedicated Project Manager and General Contractor. Nathan has a heart for team building, working with integrity and getting the job done right. Nathan is the father of two daughters, Olive and Ruby; along with one furry companion, Mac.

Jessica Case has been with Black Mountain Handyman for over three years, serving as Office Manager. If you’ve ever reached out to us over the phone, by email, or stopped by the office you have likely talked to Jessica - she works hard day in and day out to keep Black Mountain Handyman organized so the company can serve you best. Jessica is the mother of two daughters, Emily and Abby; along with two furry companions, Kevin and Broccoli. If you have been by the office, you have likely met Broccoli.

Oh, and by the way, Nathan and Jessica are getting married this March! They both love the outdoors and spend weekends hiking and camping - along with remodeling their home.

We look forward to helping you with your home projects!

BIG UPDATE: Meet Your New Owners!

Black Mountain Handyman has been run by Mark and Kenda Mullert since July 2018. Over the years, the Mullerts have built a respectable handyman business with a dedication to integrity, respect, and great communication that services the Swannanoa Valley. Since the very beginning, the company has operated with a clear vision to provide quality workmanship at fair prices, and build a team that could help improve customer homes.

With the Mullert family’s recent move out of state, they have stepped down from ownership and handed the reins over to Nathan Gruver and Jessica Case. Nathan and Jessica will continue to provide high-quality home repairs and maintenance to the Swannanoa Valley.

🏡 What began as a kitchen and bath remodel in the fall of 2023 became much more extensive after Helene brought a new layer of need to this home in Black Mountain. This one was truly a team effort, with almost everyone on staff having a hand in the final project. After overcoming the challenges of flood damage restoration and a remodel, we were thrilled for another family to turn the key to their freshly updated home this past fall.

A few intentional changes to this living/dining room brought brightness and a welcoming atmosphere. Our team helped design and implement some simple swaps – like paint and updated light fixtures – as well as building out a covered porch accessible from the dining room, creating extra space for gathering. Happy New Year! 🪩 Like many in the WNC community, 2025 was a year marked by recovery, resilience, and flexibility for our team. It was several months into the year before we ourselves were able to return to our building after completing hurricane related repairs to the office and shop space. Many of our jobs in the field included helping families get their homes back in shape post-Helene. Overall, we spent a large part of the year utilizing our team's skills in ways we never expected.

We truly can't thank you all enough for your continual trust and support this year. Whether you chose us to renovate your kitchen, clean your gutters, or simply recommended us to a friend; we are so grateful for you and look forward to being your trusted handyman crew for the time to come. We're back to work after a couple of weeks of rest, and excited to tackle the projects 2026 will bring!

Winterizing your home is a crucial step to prevent larger repair issues as temps drop below freezing (nobody needs busted pipes!) ❄️ Consider this your friendly reminder to take the necessary steps to get ahead of the game this winter.

Aside from dripping your faucets overnight, here are a few things we'd recommend thinking about...
• Check your roof for loose or missing shingles that could cause leaks
• Clean gutters
• Install storm windows
• Replace damaged weather stripping around doors
• Add insulation to attics, crawlspaces, and basements to increase energy efficiency, and insulate well houses and pipes to prevent freezing

Meet Connor 👋

Connor joined us this Fall, and we've enjoyed having his friendly, can-do attitude on the team! He came to us after many years of experience in complex outdoor carpentry and landscaping projects like pergolas, retaining walls, fencing, and other decorative installations. From landscape design to woodworking, and an incredible knack for problem solving, he makes a great addition. Join us in saying hello!
