Hey Twin Cities, I’m Nick – the guy behind Groovy Homes. Wanted to introduce myself, so you know who we are.

Right out of high school I didn’t go the college route. I started knocking on doors and cleaning windows, doing whatever honest work I could find. Window cleaning, pressure washing, holiday lights… if it kept people off ladders and made their homes look better, I was in.

Over time, a pattern kept showing up:

- Homeowners wanted someone local they could trust
- They were tired of “one‑and‑done” contractors who disappeared after getting paid
- And they were especially frustrated with lighting burnt‑out strips, sloppy installs, and no one answering the phone when something broke

When I started digging into permanent lighting, I realized how bad it really was. A lot of companies were just reselling the same short‑lived systems at big markups, or bolting lighting onto a roofing / gutter business with no real specialization.

That’s when Groovy Homes really clicked for me. For real.

Instead of treating lighting as a side job, I decided to build a company around one thing:

- Permanent architectural lifetime lighting that looks built‑in, survives Minnesota winters, and is still going strong a decade from now.

Our mission for everyone at Groovy Homes is simple:

We exist so homeowners never have to waste money on disposable lighting again.
In a market full of bolt‑on contractors and short‑term fixes, we want to be the permanent lighting company you’re still glad you chose 20+ years from now.

So that’s what we focus on every day:

- Designing clean, architectural lighting that disappears into the house by day
- Using systems rated for long life and cold weather
- Installing it like it’s our own home, and standing behind it as a local company

We’re still a small team, and we like it that way. It lets us know our customers by name, show up when there’s an issue, and actually care about how each project turns out.

We were at a house in Plymouth last week where the homeowners had tried to “upgrade” a couple years ago with cheap Amazon strip lights.

“In the daytime you can see the plastic strips sagging under the gutters, a bunch of sections are out glitching and it made the house look worse.”

We went ahead and removed all of the old strips and installed our Permanent Architectural Lifetime Lighting system in color‑matched track. All the wiring is hidden, the track lines up perfectly with the soffit, and in the daytime you barely notice it’s there. At night it looks like a completely different home.

We were at a home in Rosemount this week where the homes had the same problem a lot of Twin Cities families do:

"Once the sun goes down, the house is barley visible"

They had some solar lights and a couple motion lights, but it never really solved it. We explained to them how the dark brick absorbs light and makes the home impossible to see with most lighting products.

We came to the home and layed out a design for a Permanent Architectural Lifetime Lighting system for them, and in less then two weeks they had a clean, color‑matched track across the front with short side wraps, all app‑controlled. Someone tell them to put the Minnesota Wild colors on am I right??

They texted us that same night with a picture and said, “Holy crap guys the house looks amazing, the neighbors came out and watched us play with them!”

This is our project in Mendota heights for an amazing couple who was sick of the yearly light routine.

Their words, not mine:

“Every November we drag out the ladder, untangle the lights, realize half of them don’t work, and one of us ends up on the roof in 20‑degree weather. Or we pay someone over a grand to do it and then they take them back down. We’re over it.”

We installed Our Permanent Architectural Lifetime Lighting system across the front of their home with 6–12 ft side wraps so it looks finished from the street, plus a few custom scenes in the app for Christmas, 4th of July, and Vikings games!!

Now they hit one button and the whole house lights up. No more scheduling crews, no more ladders, no more buying new lights every couple years.
