Mary Rose T. (Cachat) Haren 105, passed away at home in the early morning hours of Monday, August 31, 2020, as the rosary was being prayed at her bedside. She was born in 1915 in a log cabin in Louisville, Ohio, to Peter and Othilie (Paumier) Cachat and was a lifelong Louisville resident. She graduated from St. Louis Elementary School and was the last surviving member of the Louisville High School Class of 1933. While at LHS, Mary Rose loved playing basketball and running track. It's believed she holds the record for the LHS women’s 50-yard dash at 6.2 seconds. She was barely out of high school when, like many others, her family lost their home during the Great Depression. She began driving before driver’s licenses were required in Ohio, and she remembered driving Model T Fords, which were still around at that time. As a young adult, she worked as an inspector of roller bearing parts at Timken. During World War II, she joined the war effort as a “Rosie the Riveter” at Republic Steel’s Berger Division plant in Louisville. She said that riveting and bucking on the airplanes was the best job she ever had. Over the years, Mary Rose enjoyed growing vegetable and flower gardens and became a vegetarian in her eighties. She received her first computer at age 80 and became e-mail savvy. She loved her large family and her many cats.
Mary Rose belonged to St. Louis Parish for her first 25 years, and for the last 80 years was a member of Sacred Heart of Mary Parish in Harrisburg. A devoted Catholic mother, she always had a special affection for the Mother of God, giving each of her five daughters the name of Mary as part of her first name. She fell asleep each night and woke each morning with her rosary in her hand. When asked the secret to her longevity, she replied, “The grace of God!”
Mary Rose was married to Michael S. Haren from 1947 until his death in 1981. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Hilarion and Camillus Cachat.
She is survived by her children, Michael, Mary Anne, John (Kathy), Mary Rose (John), Mary Louise, Mary Therese, and Mary Pat (Kurt) Reynolds, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private funeral Mass for Mary Rose was celebrated on Friday, Sept. 4, at Sacred Heart of Mary, followed by burial in the parish cemetery.
