Common Boston

Common Boston Connecting designers and the public for more vibrant, sustainable and equitable communities.

Common Boston is a volunteer program of the Boston Society of Architects with the mission of bringing together designers and the public for dialogue that inspires a more sustainable, equitable, and creative urban environment. Each year, we feature events around a number of “common points” which are areas of activity, typically focused within one of Boston’s many neighborhoods. Programs are centere

d around neighborhoods to enable the general public to explore good design that has benefited their communities, while also allowing designers to connect with specific communities regarding their ideas for future projects. The Boston Society of Architects (BSA) administers programs and provides resources that enhance the practice of architecture and the public and professional understanding of design. Since its establishment in 1867, this nonprofit professional service organization has been a committed advocate of excellence in the built environment and increased service of the profession to society.

DHS participated in the Common Boston weekend today. An annual festival of the Boston Society of Architects and now a program of the BSA Foundation, Common Boston promotes a greater appreciation of the built environment, inspires discussion about excellence in design, planning, and preservation, and broadens awareness of the rich architectural and cultural traditions present in diverse communities throughout greater Boston.
Dozens of people from dozens of places visited the Blake House, and the William and Lemuel Clap(p) Houses today, as well as the barn and carriage house, and came away with a new appreciation for the neighborhood. One person described it as discovering hidden treasure.
