Marcus Gleysteen Architects

Marcus Gleysteen Architects Our goal is to create architecture that is personally and culturally useful, giving form and purpose We respect great ideas regardless of the origin.

The key to any successful project is the assembly of an inspired and capable team that communicates very well and enjoys working together. Architectural projects are intellectually and physically challenging, but should be fun, stimulating, and rewarding. Great projects emerge from great teamwork between three interdependent but sovereign entities: the clients, the designers, and the builders. We

also believe that excellence is required by everyone involved. We have, over years, learned more about our craft from clients and builders than from any other source. As a result, we are committed to sustaining successful relationships with clients, builders, and other team members through the entire project and beyond. As a result, almost half of our work is repeat business and most of the rest comes through client referrals.

The boathouse at Lake Point House extends the main residence's commitment to structural expression and regional craft. Custom timber framing and steel connections frame the interior, while sipo mahogany cladding provides marine-grade durability on the lakefront. Designed to shelter boats and gear year-round, the structure balances pragmatic function with careful detailing.

Refined details anchor family life at Longview House. A charcoal granite fireplace grounds the light-filled living room, part of a carefully layered sequence flowing from kitchen through informal dining. Custom millwork unifies each space while maintaining distinct character.

The sculptural structure of this porte cochere becomes a lens through which landscape is revealed. Douglas fir and local granite don’t simply shelter arrival - they curate the view, transforming the working barn and rolling hills beyond into a moment of pause and appreciation.

While the grays and blues used on the exterior of Cove House blend naturally into the lakeside landscape, the Douglas fir interior glows warmly at twilight, creating a lantern-like effect reflected in the still waters.

A bridge of timber, stone and steel marks the entrance to Vermont Mountain House, spanning a natural swale that flows beneath. The design preserves the site’s hydrology while creating a dramatic arrival sequence.
