In ancient times, black pigments were derived from materials like charcoal and soot. These early pigments were often used in cave paintings and murals.

Black paint began to gain some popularity during the Colonial era, particularly in North America. Black paint was used to create contrast on architectural elements such as shutters, doors, and window frames against lighter-colored facades.

In the 20th century, with the rise of architectural modernism and minimalism, black paint began to be used in new and innovative ways. The stark contrast of black against white or light-colored surfaces became a hallmark of modern design.

Kitsap Custom Coatings has a specific process we use to make sure our clients homes and belongings remain safe and sound while we are painting your home.

1.) Drop cloths, plastic sheets, or protective covers are used to shield furniture and other items in the room from paint splatters, drips, and dust.
2.) When possible, we may move furniture away from the walls or the area being painted to create more space and reduce the risk of accidental contact with paint.
3.) Delicate or valuable items that cannot be moved are often wrapped securely in plastic or protective material to prevent paint from coming into contact with them.
4.) Masking tape is used to cover and seal areas that are difficult to move or wrap, such as electronic equipment, light fixtures, or outlets.
5.) Decorative items, small decor pieces, and items that can easily be removed from shelves or tables are often taken away temporarily to prevent any potential damage.
6.) We'll seal windows, doors, and other openings with plastic sheets or tape to prevent dust or paint particles from entering other areas of the house.
7.) When painting the exterior of a home, we'll cover outdoor furniture, grills, and other outdoor items with drop cloths or plastic to protect them from paint and debris.
8.) Before starting the painting process, we make sure to communicate with the clients to discuss which items need special protection.
9.) Our painters practice precision and care while painting around edges and corners to minimize the risk of accidentally hitting furniture or belongings.
10.) After completing the painting, we'll conduct a thorough cleanup to remove any paint debris or drop cloths. They also inspect the area to ensure no damage has occurred during the process.

The use of red as a house color has a fascinating history that spans various cultures and time periods. In medieval Europe, red was a popular color choice for various architectural elements, including doors, window frames, and decorative accents. Red was seen as a symbol of prosperity and power.

The use of red paint on exteriors was not only aesthetic but also functional, as it helped protect wood from weathering and insect damage.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Arts and Crafts movement emphasized natural materials and earthy color palettes. Red, often in muted or rust tones, was used to create warm and inviting exteriors that harmonized with the surrounding environment. Red can evoke a sense of energy, warmth, and boldness.

During the 1990s, house paint color trends were influenced by a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. Neutrals and earthy tones were common, along with soft pastels and some bolder hues. Here are some colors that were commonly favored for house exteriors during that era:

-Deep green tones, often referred to as "hunter green," were popular for both interiors and exteriors, especially on traditional-style homes.

-Soft gray hues provided a subtle and understated appearance, making them suitable for a range of architectural styles

-Pastel shades like dusty rose were used to add a touch of warmth and femininity to exterior color schemes.

-Navy blue was a popular choice for shutters, doors, and accents, adding a classic touch to many exteriors.

-Warm brick red colors were often used on homes with a traditional or colonial aesthetic.

-Muted teal and turquoise shades provided a refreshing pop of color without being overly bold.

Professional interior and exterior painters, like Kitsap Custom Coatings, are skilled at handling areas with damage or imperfections to ensure a smooth and flawless paint finish.

We'll start by thoroughly inspecting the surfaces to identify any cracks, holes, wood rot, or imperfections caused by weathering. We'll patch and repair small holes, cracks, and dents using spackling compound or joint compound.

Prior to painting, exterior surfaces are often power washed to remove dirt, debris, and loose paint. This helps create a clean and smooth base for the new paint. After patches are dry, painters carefully sand the repaired areas to ensure they are even with the surrounding surfaces. This creates a smooth canvas for the paint to adhere to.

For areas with extensive repairs, painters may apply a primer to ensure uniform paint absorption and proper coverage. Then, if there are stains or discolorations on the walls or ceilings, painters use stain-blocking primers to prevent the stains from bleeding through the new paint.

While blue paint wasn't always a common choice for exteriors, its popularity has grown over the centuries.

In early American history, natural pigments were often used for house exteriors due to limited paint options. Blue pigments derived from materials like indigo and woad were occasionally used to paint homes. The color blue was chosen for its associations with maritime themes and patriotic symbolism.

In the mid-20th century, pastel shades gained popularity for residential exteriors. Light blues, were used to create a cheerful and inviting aesthetic. These colors were often associated with suburban homes and the desire for a clean and fresh appearance.

The 2000s was a time of experimentation and a time of exploring new aspects of traditional colors. These were the top six most popular colors of this decade:

▪ Soft and muted shades of green, such as sage or olive, were commonly used to bring a touch of nature indoors. These colors were often chosen for bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen spaces.
▪ Warm Terracotta and Tuscan Colors. These earthy tones were used to create a cozy and rustic ambiance, often paired with distressed furniture and decorative accents.
▪ Light and cool shades of blue were prevalent in the 2000s, offering a sense of tranquility and calmness to interiors. These blues were often used in bedrooms, bathrooms, and coastal-themed spaces.
▪ Rich and deep shades of red and burgundy were used to add drama and sophistication to living rooms, dining rooms, and other common areas.
▪ Beige, cream, and other neutral colors were popular choices in the early 2000s. These colors provided a warm and inviting backdrop for various interior design styles.
▪Toward the latter half of the 2000s, light gray and greige (a combination of gray and beige) gained popularity for their versatility and contemporary feel. These neutral tones worked well with a variety of design aesthetics.
