Anyone else get a disproportionate sense of satisfaction from flipping to a blank page in your planner? 🙋🏻‍♀️

I was sitting down this morning to look at our June calendar and thought I’d share some of the ways I approach our schedule!

At the beginning of each month, I sit down with my favorite planner and write down all the big things we have going on that month. I use felt tips to color code—each kid gets their own color, all-family activities are another color, etc. I don’t write down every single meeting or appointment, just the stuff that takes up a big chunk of time. The monthly page helps me see the bird’s eye view…which weeks are already maxed out? If there’s something we’ve been meaning to do, where does it fit best (if at all)?

Once I see the big picture, I turn to the first weekly page. Here I fill in all the fixed commitments first—the appointments, the practices, etc.—and then I can fill in everything else. Meal planning? I can see what days I have time to cook and what days we need a crock pot meal or leftovers. Long to-do list? I can look at what I’ve already committed to and see where in my schedule I have time to check them off. I’ve found that if I make a to-do list at the beginning of the week without looking at my schedule, my eyes can be bigger than my stomach, so to speak. We all have a finite number of hours in a week. But if part of making my list is deciding WHEN I can do those things, I can get a feel for if I’m over-committing myself, and then I can make any needed adjustments.

This is the step everyone dreads, but trust us, it is SO worth it! The goal is to get rid of stuff that is just taking up space and end up with only stuff you use and love. When the clutter is gone and you can actually SEE what you have, you get to really enjoy the things that matter most!
