Lead paint is highly toxic and can cause a range of health issues, especially for children. Lead-based paint was banned in the U.S. before 1978, so any home or apartment built before then could have it. Lead becomes dangerous when inhaled or swallowed, and there is no safe level of lead exposure.

Here's what to know about lead paint hazards:

Exposure
Lead can be inhaled through dust in the air, especially during renovations that disturb painted surfaces. Children can also become poisoned by putting contaminated objects in their mouths, eating paint chips, or playing in contaminated soil.

Health effects
Lead can damage the brain, kidneys, nerves, and blood. It can cause learning and behavioral problems, seizures, headaches, stomachaches, nausea, tiredness, and irritability. Children may not show symptoms.

Severity
High levels of lead can damage the nervous system and kidneys in both children and adults. Very high levels can cause coma, convulsions, and death.

Yesterday the team and I were in Camden doing a lead test. The young lady had 4 children. 2 of which had been diagnosed with elevated levels of lead. While testing her home she informed us that she had broken her leg 2 days prior while traversing through the snow. She apologized if she seemed rude (she didn't) just that she was aggravated because she place a food order to be delivered 3 times and it keeps getting pushed backed and then canceled because there weren't enough drivers.
Later that day after we had finished our work day. The team and I returned to her house. I asked her was she ever able to get her food order to which she said no. So I asked her to make a list and text it to me and that we would go shopping for her.

She was overwhelmed with joy. We split the list and we're done in no time.
We all have a responsibility to one another. To our community. Sometimes our duties take us beyond our duties.

GET YOUR HOMES TESTED FOR LEAD!
Its here and its real. The NJDCA has grants of now up to $30k to repair doors, windows and wood works in a home found to have lead. If your house was built before 1978 there is a chance you have dangerous lead in your home.
