We are a collaborative design firm that focuses on projects that reinvent space within urban environments. The practice’s explorations are in three main areas of investigation: work that studies the Remainder or Left Over spaces of the city; work that leads to Reinvention and Upcycling which creates new meaning and ways of living; and work that Retrofits to enable high performance and energy effic

iency. Often these quests lead us simultaneously on low and high tech pathways that address materiality and fabrication methods. We are adapting to new ways of living and working while also incorporating green technologies. Recent projects in our office include Passive House design, advertisting agency office renovation, bar and coffee cafe, and art studios--combination work/live.

More collages from 1999 architecture school. Reading thru Walter Hood Urban Diaries 1997 and looking at his collages and realize that I was experimenting with collage too as a way to study space in studio projects. Reminiscing - I can remember making each one and deciding what went next to what. Diebenkorn Ocean Park Series was probably our first or second project in first year studio - image #2. Image #1 was for a MASS Moca design studio with Robert Slutzky and another professor who had worked for Le Corbusier (forgetting his name but he was from Chile). 🇨🇱 at

Just found some collages I made in architecture school in 1999. The real collage from found print magazines, and tickets, library cards, stands out now compared to digital and AI-generated work. Also, I can see my political references from that time period or sometimes just plain interest in certain colors and compositions. The professor - Robert Slutsky - was an excellent teacher. I remember it being one of the only classes where we dove into talking about colors. #1999

Excited for Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union official opening / 25th Anniversary on May 20th next week! This project has meant so much to FNA Studio - working with community to provide critical spaces for small businesses and community members to thrive. It’s a huge honor. Go check it out and consider joining this Credit Union ! It’s much more personal than Chase Bank branch and there is power with the decision of where to put your money. Here it keeps it in the community. BCFCU has served the community for over 25 years on Myrtle Ave - and now they own their space 💕. /// lots of collaborators on this one - but will share more when I have professional photos soon…

Our 4th engagement on Social Housing just completed last Thursday evening! Pictured here: Social Housing Engagement workshop that AIA Bkyn Housing Committee developed and facilitated at SUNY Purchase per the request of NYPIRG students! AIA Bkyn worked in collaboration with AIA WHV and CSSNY. NYS Senator Shelley Mayer, and primary bill sponsor NYS AM Emily Gallagher plus Assembly members Chris Burdick and Steve Otis hosted the event. AIA architects facilitated conversation about existing housing conditions and helped participants visualize future social housing. And learn about the Bill called NY Social Housing Development Authority - (S5674/A6265). These Engagements are also affecting the bill - as input occurs from people around the state.

Since last Fall, AIA Housing Committee members have been working with NYS AM Emily Gallagher’s office and CSSNY to create housing boards for an active workshop that encourages conversations about things loved or not working with participants existing housing. Then, participants imagine housing typologies and unit types that may work better for preferred living and what future housing could look like - everything from the residential unit and mixed uses to support services, the surrounding environment and reimagined transporation. This continues our work last Fall with Social Housing panel discussions and with engagements we designed. Excited for this New York Roadshow to keep going! I am chair of the Housing Committee at AIA Bkyn - and come join us and help plan events on topics you want to learn about such as Social Housing !

I think peace negotiations should be held in the new LACMA (Zumthor) because the humility of seeing how for 1000s of years humans - artists - have been making the most exquisite things and are exquisite themselves - in being lucky enough to be here on 🌍 . It’s awe. And the enclosure made to house it all - with afternoon sun raking in, views of palms and mountain and city - I felt emotional 😭. Zumthor fan. After seeing Kolumbo Museum years back in Germany - I can see how this carries over similar ideas and I remember feeling similarly there. No Sheetrock. 🤩. This is like a vivid dream. I can’t believe it was built. The first century ram horn from Iran - that really got me - check that out. All of it.

Spring equinox at Mayan’s brilliantly aligned sun/shadows set for spring equinox 1500 yrs ago. FNA bag siting - sweating and freaking out at the ruins at Chichen Itza, Uxmal, Kabah, and Labna. I remember a xerox I copied of Kabah and Uxmal from an old boss in the mid 90s (Tony Atkin) - I thought - I have to get to this place! Mind blown 🤯. Can you imagine if your architecture spoke and wowed people 1500 years after it was built ?
