Whether you dismiss or endorse this scientist's methods of research, I think the important takeaway here is that we need to "listen" to nature, and re-thread our universal connection to what is all around us. To recognize our shared language of survival and beauty seems to be the way to survive as a species, indeed, as a whole world-wide community of unique organisms. I believe in magic!

Lawn is, essentially, a dead ecosystem. We mow away productive seed heads and flowering plants every week, eliminating them as food sources for pollinators. On top of that, we apply chemicals and pesticides regularly to maintain a manicured and green expanse, further killing beneficial insects and, by extension, depopulating local bird and other species dependent on those insects for a food source. These same chemicals seep into our groundwater, wells, lakes, rivers, and oceans and contribute to their toxification. Finally, lawn mowers themselves contribute heavily to carbon pollution in the air. The EPA estimates that mowing for one hour is equal to driving 11 cars in that same hour! Consider native ground covers as a healthy alternative.
