Forget Me Not Gardens

Forget Me Not Gardens I share interesting links, pics that make me happy, and my Swiss roots of thrifty living, and up-cycling.

Plants, trees, vegetables,& Forget Me Nots, grown by me from seeds, cuttings, or division of plants I've grown in rural Duvall for 33 years...
Starting over again in North Central Washington in the North Cascades at the Red Cabin 4 years ago... Places I've been, or want to visit, and beautiful gardens around the world. I've always had a "green thumb" indoors, but when I began "reclaiming" my rural

acre and a half from Mother Nature, I found my "green thumb" extended outside. My home landscaping is mostly from cuttings, gifts, or plants that other folks did not want in their garden anymore. Of course End-of-Season shopping in Garden Departments, or even grocery stores is a must to take advantage of deals on specimen trees. Vegetable gardening is best way to feed my family fresh healthy food from the garden to the table, and there is great gratification from growing food. Since I began collecting my favorite seeds every year, I have stronger, healthier plants suited for our area, and I share those with my family, and neighbors. My Weeping Willows have become the most popular tree cutting I make, as it seems I'm not the only one who grew up wanting one in my yard. O course there are always Forget Me Nots on my property, hence the name ;)

Ethnobotany of Local Plants
With Renee Fredrickson
June 20, 10:30-2:30 at First Light Farm Carnation)

We humans are indebted to plants for our very existence. Indigenous Peoples from diverse locations all refer to the plants as The First People. This class will explore some of our local plants and how people have used their gifts: for food, medicine, tools, and whatever else time allows. This will include skills and resources for plant ID and taxonomy and the exploration of field journals/plant cards.

The June class will explore the plants of early summer, focusing on a select group that are particularly used for food/medicine. Recipes will be provided for preparations using those plants. We will explore what is blooming and practice identification skills. Resources will be provided as well as what to bring to class. Bring your curiosity and willingness to explore.

Limited to 10 participants. $60.00.

Great program

Do you know someone who is struggling to pay the rising costs of food? First Light Farm & Learning Center (Carnation) has received a grant from King County to provide 8 Mini Farms (10'x30' garden plots) for free to any individual or family who is struggling financially and would like to learn how to grow their own produce.

The grant provides for a high tunnel (which we teach you how to build), plant starts, irrigation supplies, landscape fabric, and ongoing support to ensure your success.

Please share this program with others. Interested families can contact us at [email protected] or text 206-719-8602 to set up an appointment to come to the farm and see what's possible! Let's grow food together!

My Weeping Willow Tree start is 4 years old now, it came from the tree I started in 2010 at my old home in Duvall.
