Impulse spending wasn’t just a bad habit for me—it was a cycle fueled by emotions. I was chasing those small, fleeting dopamine hits that come from adding items to a cart and clicking “purchase.” At the moment, it felt exciting, comforting even, but the reality is, that feeling didn’t last.
My house was filling up with things I didn’t truly need or love. Eventually, I was decluttering these same items and feeling the sting of money wasted.
The turning point? Decluttering. Taking a hard look at what I owned helped me see the patterns. It showed me what I was buying on impulse and why. Once I realized this, I started questioning myself BEFORE I made a purchase: Am I buying this because it’s useful and adds value, or am I trying to fill an emotional void?
Decluttering gave me clarity and broke the cycle. It helped me pause, reflect, rethink my spending habits and then I was able to spend money in a way that reflected my values.
