When I say I’ve been working since I was 15, had TWO jobs at 16, and was going to college… that’s not me flexing. 🥴
That was me keeping myself busy and trying to survive.
I was in foster care. I was trying to figure out life, take care of myself, build a future, and make sure I had something to fall back on. I wasn’t sitting around thinking, “Look at me, look how much I’m doing.” I was literally doing whatever I could to keep moving forward.
And honestly, I’ve learned that if someone has a nasty heart, it doesn’t matter how you say something. They’re going to interpret it however they want. You can share your experience and they’ll call it bragging. You can share something you’re proud of and they’ll call it flexing. You can tell your story and somehow they’ll make it about their feelings.
That’s not my problem anymore.
The life I have today is something I’ve been building for a LONG time.
When I got married, my husband helped me bring things to life and we built a lot together. ❤️ But I was already building before him. I had dreams before him. I had goals before him. I had already fought through things and created a foundation for myself before he ever came into the picture.
I knew I had a LOT to work on within myself, and I still do. But at the end of the day, I always knew what I wanted most:
I wanted to be a wife.
I wanted to be a mom.
I wanted to follow God.
I wanted to work in the medical field.
And I wanted to use my business to raise money and help kids aging out of foster care.
That’s the life I’m building.
Not to impress anybody.
Not to make anybody feel less than.
Not to flex.
I know where I came from, and I know how hard I had to work to get here.
So when I talk about my life, sometimes I’m not bragging… I’m reflecting.
Because the girl who was just trying to survive at 15 would probably be pretty damn proud of the woman she became. ❤️
