Twin Peaks Tropicals

Twin Peaks Tropicals Plants were a hobby and now they're an obsession. My husband built my first greenhouse to keep a palm tree alive over the winter. I needed to figure this out.

Flower gardens and houseplants are something I learned to love from my mom and my grandmother; both were avid gardeners and took pride in their plants and others stopping to see their flower gardens. My love grew slowly until I figured out exactly what type of plants I loved most, and more importantly, what plants loved me back--tropicals. That first year, I struggled to figure out how to make a 3

season hobby greenhouse into a 4 season tropical house. The palm, some herbs, and a hibiscus plant made it through the winter, but the whole setup was too touch and go for me. Three years later I replaced the small hobby greenhouse with a stronger tunnel and found the success I was looking for. Actually, I found too much success. I quickly outgrew the greenhouse and a mere two years later added a second tunnel. "The twins" are now filled with tropicals and succulents in the winter. In summer one is filled with cactus and succulents from my house, and the tropicals move out to the patio. The second greenhouse works as my propagation and repotting workspace. This page is for sharing tips for having a winter tropical greenhouse as well as a place to showcase all the great pictures of the flowers and gardening that's happening in and around the twins.

After the biggest bloom grew on my one Venus flytraps, it sprouted some baby traps. This is a disorder known as false vivipary. I’ll propagate them in a week or so.

Decided to grow vegetables into the greenhouse this summer. 🍅 🥒 Usually this one sits empty while my succulents and carnivorous fill the other one for the summer. 🌵 But since I made the raised garden into an herb garden I decided to try this. 🌱
Since the Climapod greenhouse has automatic roof vents and a louvre in the back, I added a shade cloth and a fan on a thermostat to keep temps cooler. 🥵 I know I’ll have to water often, but the climate is more controlled than the garden AND I can keep the critters away from them. 🍅🥬🥒🌶️🫑Here’s to experimenting 🤞🏻

A good friend gave this to me in the fall as one of those grocery store plants with barely any root. She thought it was pretty and that I would have roses blooming in winter. A few branches died off but this one kept going strong. Now I think of her when I see it 🤍 🌹
