I have designed buildings that will never be built but I feel for the engineers who designed this counter-balance railroad bridge over the Erie Canal in Tonawanda NY. It was built in 1918 and was tested and opened as design when it was completed at the end of the season. Before the next boating season the height requirements for the canal were lessened and the bridge never opened again. Trains still cross it daily.
