I hand-loaded the dump trailer all by myself. I literally just turned 46 yesterday, and I can’t believe I did all that. I have been doing this probably since I was 9 years old. I grew up in a home that relied only on firewood. I’m not going to lie; I absolutely hated doing firewood as a kid. My exact words were, 'I will never own a house with a wood stove.' I have owned two homes, and neither one ran on wood. I’ll never forget my first oil bill; it was a shock. My house ran on oil all year long, so that bill was not fun. My second home ran on natural gas and electric; my electric and gas bills were through the roof. I can’t even imagine paying for oil now. We do have a wood stove here, and it’s a second source of heat. I’m so glad we will be all set for next year. We ran out of wood ourselves, just like everyone else did. We have helped out so many families stay warm over that awful winter we just had. We did deliveries in the snowstorms; Saturdays were spent delivering totes of firewood in the bed of our truck. Our most significant number of deliveries in one day was 8. We always make sure our customers get their wood on time unless the roads are not safe for us to drive on. We also try to work with our customers’ schedules as well. This is my first year running a wood splitter, and I understand what Dave has gone through all these years. Our splitters do not have log lifts, so Dave and I have to put those heavy blocks on our splitters. It’s so much manual labor. Last year Dave and I were finally able to get a conveyor. Firewood is definitely not a cheap industry, and we are always trying to upgrade our machines or buy things to make our lives easier. We are both in our 40s, and this is a backbreaking job. We love it though, and love seeing the look on our customers’ faces when they receive their delivery. So many complaints from our customers about our competitors. Dave and I are so blessed that so many of you put your trust and us to deliver a premium product. We will always strive to do our best to deliver a top notch product.
