Hazy skies, rich soil, and gardens coming alive!

Today’s refresh included detailed cleanup and a fresh layer of compost mulch to nourish the soil, retain moisture, and give these beds a clean, healthy finish. The alliums are stealing the show right now 💜

🌸🐜 WHY ARE ANTS CRAWLING ALL OVER YOUR PEONIES? 🐜🌸

Garden Education:
Before you panic and reach for the spray bottle… those ants are actually part of a fascinating garden friendship!
Peony buds produce a sweet nectar that ants absolutely love. While they stop by for a sugary snack, the ants also help protect the buds from harmful insects that could damage the blooms before they open.
Think of them as tiny floral bodyguards. ✨

👉 And here’s the surprising part: Peonies do not need ants to bloom.

💭 So what happens to the ants once the peonies bloom?
As the flowers begin to open, the nectar dries up, the ants lose interest, and they simply move on in search of their next food source. No harm done — just a beautiful little spring partnership created by nature. 💚

🌸 Next time you spot ants on your peonies, you’ll know they’re not hurting the plant… they’re just enjoying the perks before the big bloom show begins!

**🚨 TICK SEASON IS VERY ACTIVE RIGHT NOW 🚨 **
We’re already finding large numbers of ticks this spring throughout gardens, lawns, wooded edges, and residential properties here in New York.
This is your reminder to stay protected anytime you’re outdoors — especially while gardening, hiking, mowing, or doing yard work.

✅ Use tick repellent
✅ Wear long sleeves and long pants in high grass or wooded areas
✅ Check yourself, kids, and pets after being outside ✅ Remove outdoor clothing immediately
✅ Wash clothing after outdoor activities
✅ Dry clothing on HIGH heat for at least 10–15 minutes to help kill ticks
✅ Shower and do a full body check after outdoor work

!!Proper tick removal matters!!

According to current CDC guidance:
✔️ Use fine-tip tweezers
✔️ Grab the tick as close to the skin as possible
✔️ Pull upward slowly and steadily
✔️ Clean the area afterward with soap, alcohol, or antiseptic

**Avoid squeezing or crushing the tick during removal.
Watch for symptoms after a bite: • fever • fatigue • headaches • body aches • rash • joint pain
Ticks can carry Lyme disease and other illnesses common in the Northeast, so early awareness is important.

Stay safe out there this season. 🙌

FRIDAY TIP: Vinca—Easy Ground Cover, But Use It Wisely
Vinca (Periwinkle) is a popular ground cover—and for good reason.

✔️ Low-maintenance
✔️ Fast-spreading
✔️ Great for shady areas

You’ll often see it used for:
✔️ Under trees
✔️ Slopes and erosion control
✔️ Filling large areas quickly

It’s tough and reliable—but here’s the catch:
👉 It spreads aggressively.

If not managed, it can take over beds and crowd out other plants.

Consejo de Viernes:
Vinca
✔️ Ideal para sombra
✔️ Fácil de mantener
👉 Pero se expande rápidamente
Usarla con control es clave.

🌷 Tulips in Bloom Now… The Secret Starts Months Earlier
There’s nothing quite like tulips in spring—but what most people don’t realize is…

🌿 These blooms are planned in the fall.
✔️ Planting time: Late fall (October–December) once the soil cools
✔️ How to plant: 6–8 inches deep in well-drained soil
✔️ Sun: Full sun to partial shade
🦌 Deer tip:
Tulips are a favorite for deer, so protection is key.
We recommend planting alongside deer-resistant bulbs like daffodils or alliums, or using natural repellents.

📐 Design tip:
Plant in clusters and layer early, mid, and late varieties for a longer-lasting display.
In our region, tulips are often treated as annuals for best results.
🌱 Designed for New York & New Jersey landscapes.

✔️ Sol: Sol completo a sombra parcial
