resilient and adaptable. Their seeds blown far and wide and able to put down roots wherever they land 🍃

April is the month of the military child here in the US, and I want to honor my three kids for all the sacrifices they’ve made in their short lives with this piece. The dandelion is the symbol of the mil.itary child, and rightly so. Children of servicemembers oftentimes grown up in a nomadic lifestyle, enduring long separations from parents as they sacrifice for our country.
My children have had their share of moving and starting over as well as their father’s deployments; my oldest has lived through six deployments, totally about 5 years without his dad. He’s lived in 7 homes. That was 5 soccer leagues! And as many schools districts. All the while keeping great grades and being an amazing kid. And, if you think new cultures are only limited to different countries, you’ve possibly never moved from a small town in California to Northern Virginia during a pandemic. But they’re always adapting and stepping up, and taking the long Navy separations in stride. While we’ve been here for nearly four years now, with no plans to leave, and I’ve since moved on from that marriage, my wonderful kiddos continue to live the mil child life. They welcomed their father back from his latest deployment in January.
Cheers to these guys, and all the kids thriving through the truly unique lives they’ve grown up in! You are resilient and adaptable, and your sacrifices don’t go unnoticed ❤️
