By using shapes
, patterns, and multidimensional layers of acrylic paint, spray paint, and paint markers he strives to bring a new forefront to live painting by harvesting the musical notation and utilizing it as a catalyst for symbolism in his works. His paintings serve as both a personal and interpersonal hard drive queued for rapid-downloads of precognitive and intuitive experiences hoping to bridge together the realistic with the more surreal and dreamy of states into one ensemble. Mike’s work fuses together the elements of the unknown and other-worldly existence into mirror-like acrylic paintings brought to canvas. Mike has had the privilege since the beginning of his art career in 2009 to paint live both on and off stage with musicians and DJ’s including STS9,David Hasselhoff On Acid,A Perfect Circle, Muse, The Brody Buster Band, Kid Cudi, Eminem,Mouth, The Black Keys, Primus, Flogging Molly, Bassnectar, KasKade, The Flaming Lips, The Floozies, Ryan Forest, Sara Glass, Big Gigantic, Cosmopolitics, Santonio Tanderas, The Cosmopolitics, RaD-B, Spankalicous, and many more. Mike has had the opportunity to collaborate and work with many artists including Tommy Dimmel, Ami Lynette, Daniel Pinchbeck, Kelsey Fried, Jason Turner, Rick Dunwoody, Jordan Tarrant, K.J. Thies, Lauri Keener, Don Callarman, Caroline Faulkner, Dylan Ziggy, Erok Johansen, Dave Hehetre, Franny Knight, Gavin Turner, Berk Visual, Brian Holmes, Brendan Martinez, Vibe Tribe, Max Neutra, Skyler Criswell, Nate Van Horn, Johnny Quest, and many more. Mike trained himself as a painter by painting at Live Musical Performances in Venues, Bars, and festivals around the United States. For Mike Hooper, Live Painting and the musicians involved served as a never-ending fuel that could be ciphered and recycled in the creative process of undergoing a painting. Mike once said, “Everything comes into play at a Live Painting Performance; the lighting, the crowd, the key of the music, the lyrics, and even the climate and temperature. The idea is to in many different ways from many different artists, transpose what is happening at the show onto the canvas. The fact that so many artists do this in so many different ways is so astonishing in its wide variation. In some places it’s rare to have even one Live Painter at an event, but to have four to six in the same room is to have keys to doorways once never opened.”
Mike’s initiative with art has been to inspire other artists to follow their he(art) and catalyze their life experiences by using creativity as their tool. Mike bridges a hand smiths touch of carpentry into his paintings by the construction of 3D objects attached to his acrylic pieces such as pennies, elastic tubing, dream catcher’s, wooden blocks, plumbers fittings, computer mouse’s, VCR parts, old faucets, and much more. Mike aims to connect the Visionary Acrylic techniques with attached objects to create a 3D roller coaster ride for his viewers taking them up and down through a quixotic hemisphere of colorful vistas and landscapes. Mike now focuses most of his time singing and writing in an acoustic project that is soon to be combined in a duet with female vocals and musicians from across the states. After putting the brush down for awhile in late 2012, Mike plans to reconnect and fuse his musical projects with his art again at festivals in 2013. http://www.zazzle.com/hoopervisuals/gifts
