How Did I Get Here?

Artist Statement

There is a question that a longtime friend of mine asked while we were talking on the phone earlier this summer. With our children playing in the background, my friend laughed as he asked, “How did we ever get here, Colin?” It was funny to me, because I often ask myself the same thing. With a wonderful wife, two amazing little boys, a job I enjoy and a car payment for the next seven years – it’s been a long time since our carefree days in high school. From this question came this show -- snapshots of life from the perspective of a young man finding his place in the adult world.

Each painting represents a moment that takes a prominent place in my memories of young adulthood. My intent is to prompt the viewer to recall his own such moments, and most importantly to think about why they take a prominent place in his mind.

These paintings have been some of the most interesting and entertaining for me to create.

The show has come to close at the visual art exchange in Raleigh, NC and I am offering up the piece for $50. The piece comes in a black frame floated on a white mat. The image is 11"x17" and the frame size is 14"x22". I would love for it to find a new home as we do not have any place to store and hang it. Buyer will be required to pay shipping.
