Hello neighbors. Please read this and let me know if it's accurate:
There are at least 2 generations of adults that grew up in miserable conditions in CLE. Bad neighborhood conditions and a failing school system. The genie has been out of the bottle. Much of this violence is for survival because that's all they know. What gets me is City Hall can't see that the bad neighborhood conditions are still there and some even worse. We see politicians and so-called City leaders standing in front of cameras spouting tag lines but they're not coming to the hood to talk to "the people."
We voted for a new Mayor because we wanted the nonsense to change. For many of us this situation with the 6 foot grass on our block has caused a "no faith" in anything the new admin says. The constant emails we send to get answers go unanswered. Why? We've noticed that when we challenge the new admin, they fall short of expectations. Way short. The talent just isn't there to transform or neighborhoods into something decent let alone something amazing. There are many big titles in the admin but the talent is very limited. If the talent was there, we'd see it in our municipal services.
So our message to Mayor Bibb is the quality of the current services to our neighborhoods is your resume. You can give grand speeches, do photo ops and have your marketing team try provide a certain image but what it all boils down to is what we see when we wake up and before we go to bed. That would be our neighborhoods. You have the opportunity to fix it but your supporting cast is hurting you, BIG TIME!!
It's time to face facts. The people the Mayor Bibb has appointed to key positions that have to do with the presentation of our neighborhoods are failing miserably. We haven't heard anything from the Director of Public Works and we have absolutely no idea where Bibb's COO is. All of the divisions and departments that affect the presentation of our neighborhoods fall under the COO. It's like she's been AWOL from the start.
Understand that I communicate with many people around the city in many neighborhoods. I also talk to many manufacturers and scientists on the daily. People who are working to provide solutions to help municipalities do better work, fast and precise. What I've noticed is the level of commitment from many companies that want to do their part. Our problem in CLE is local government has a losing culture embedded deep inside of it and many managers don't want to be better.
Being a great manager is more than having the title. Just because a person may have multiple degrees doesn't make them a great manager. It's about how you effect the people you are managing. A great manager will teach all they are managing how to be great. A great manager will also bring in the best of the best to expose that knowledge to his/her workers without being intimidated. Sometimes that great manager needs to step back and do what's best for his/her workers.
Being a great leader has to be inside of you. All of the schooling on the world won't make you a great leader. Being a great leader is a mindset. Having an open mind to explore what hasn't been explored. A great leader should be able to figure things out instead of constantly looking for consultants to tell them what to do. Being a great leader is an ongoing process. Never being satisfied.
