Thank you. To all the people who have lent their support, advice, a listening ear in the long process of putting the book together. I appreciate it more than words can express. And to all who have ordered or will order or flip through it and take away a little piece on how to create a home that is just for them: thank you too.

So you’ve Pinterested yourself into a spiral (again)? I can help with that.

Stop shopping the same three shops. If the algorithm recommended it, so did it to 400,000 other people. Originality lives elsewhere (in thrift stores, antiques, the local shop with the good eye…).
One thing in the room should make you slightly nervous. If everything feels “safe,” nothing feels special.
Mix your eras. A heavy gilded mirror above a MCM sideboard isn’t a mistake — it’s tension, and tension makes design sing.
Pattern on pattern is not a crime. It’s a skill that can be learned. Train your eye and play around.
Buy art that you love. Decorate around it. Not the other way round.
And finally: stop waiting until you “find the right rug/lamp/pillow.” The room that’s waiting to be finished is the room that never gets lived in 🥲

The Art of the Clash - A Manifesto Against Mundane Design. Out April 14.

Nothing will help but a consultation IRL? DM me and we can take it from there 💞

Things that were not on my bingo card:
- writing a book
- writing a book about design
- being filmed in my home to show my very own interior design (& textiles!)
- that I absolutely LOVED being in front of the camera (maybe nobody who knows me is surprised ha), also thanks to the amazing team
- how much the design world would give back to me; I’ve never felt more at home & myself than working in this industry
- that my beloved great room could look like a million bucks, all thanks to this incredible wallpaper; this will get its own post soon but the light was just too good today not to share this pic
- and finally, this is something that was on my bingo card but I want to share it anyway: nothing is better than to be surrounded by wonderful people who want to see you succeed, in this particular case & ~ thank you for brainstorming, talking things through, thinking ahead and laughing along 💞

Ok, done with the soppy post, back to regular my rage bait err informative content. As usual, follow for bold interiors, zero rules and absolutely no greige (but good muddy beige can absolutely happen) ✌️

Hi, I’m Sophie — a European designer who somehow ended up living in America.

After years of looking at homes on both sides of the Atlantic, I’ve realised we approach our interiors quite differently.

What would you add to this list?

The incredible thing about the art of the clash is that inspiration lies everywhere. Anything can lead to the tension we crave. It lets the eye travel and gives you that little vavavoom feeling (or maybe that’s just me? Anyone else get that tingle when something *just works*?)…

What about you? What is your favourite way of creating that tingle?

1. Pink and red. Need I say more?
2. If you look closely, every color is repeated or related in this vignette. And the red ties it all together.
3. Imagine an orange lacquer something with a softer lilac thing. Honestly, this is how quite a few of my designs start.
4. Maximalism at its finest.
5. Wore this outfit at a recent trade show and can’t stop thinking about the colors.
6. The thing with brown furniture, it needs to be tied into a very considered design but if it works, it truly shines.
7. My Mami had a knack for pulling off some truly amazing outfit. Somehow her outfit in front of the chintz is giving me something. Let’s see if I can make it into a design 🩷

Save this post for your future inspiration. And follow for more bold designs, zero rules and never any greige!

If you feel a bit meh when you look around your house you might have Pinterested too hard - there are some things it just can’t teach you. But fret not, I’m here and ready to impart my ever insightful wisdom.

1. Adding color later is not a design strategy and won’t serve you well. Start with color (just go with your favourite) and then add the layers.
2. Nothing is more important to how a space feels than light. Every corner should have a table lamp, use sconces for some higher light and don’t rely an overhead light, it barely ever looks good. And if you have to use recessed lights, make them 3” pretty please and sparingly.
3. If you love a layered and maximalist look, stop throwing out furniture and furnishings when you move to a new place. Don’t buy new but add to what you own and if you’re going for a different look, 👏take👏it👏slow👏.
4. It’s much easier to edit than to get it right the first time. Frankly, the final stages of decorating are often a game of throw everything at it and see what sticks. The best colors, patterns, furnishings have often come in as the wild card. That’s when it gets interesting.
5. And finally, stop overthinking it and just try things. You are not creating a house for others but for yourself. You need to love it and in order to do that, you need to see how something looks in YOUR home. Not in a photo that doesn’t show how they’re hiding half of mess behind the next corner (trust me, that’s how it goes).

Never forget, Pinterest loves a safe little mood board. We love a home with a pulse that feels uniquely you, warts and all 🩷

Save this for your next Pinterest spiral and follow for bold interiors, zero rules, and absolutely no greige.

Romantic living rooms should be more of a thing. That’s it. That’s the caption.

Right. What should I come for next? I have tasted blood mwuahahaha
Your turn: What are your controversial opinions re interiors?! Tell me all your secret icks 🙃

01/21/2026

I find the idea of “hosting” strange. It’s having people over and that’s it. No matter the setting or the fancy-ness, I crave people and laughter and controversial discussions (that’s the German in me 🙃). I think especially in these times, we could all use more human interactions not less!
With that in mind, when is your next time having friends over? Let me know in the comments 💞
