Life, at least my life, is often full of irony.
Over the last few months I needed to be working on packing my life up for a move, joining my husband where his job took him.

Instead, I’ve been project managing for clients including packing, organizing, donating, painting, repairing, gardening, and finding and bringing in trades for the projects that were too big or out of my wheelhouse and doing what was needed to help them prepare their house for sale. My final task was to stage the house with items that had not yet been packed into pods. As we worked to pack pods, I was stashing potential staging baubles and bits.

This project was no small task, and at times it felt as if I’d never cross the finish line.

Ok, we. When I recognized there was a need for someone who could tackle the deep cleaning needs, I found and brought on Sarah of SolShine Cleaning Co. She tackled the cleaning with gusto- freeing me up for other projects. She also worked alongside me on numerous other tasks and quickly proved herself absolutely indispensable.

Finally, the beautiful, huge house is ready for market.

Over the next little bit, I’ll be sharing some more of the details.

Finally done!

Several weeks ago I hastily removed the (very much NOT) drywall from the lower portion of this wall. Torrential rain and a grading issue (now fixed) caused water to seep in and soak the wall.

After allowing plenty of time for the area to dry out, I replaced the insulation, hung new drywall and have been working on mudding layers between other tasks.

Today, it’s now finished with new baseboard to boot.

The last two days were busy putting two coats of ceiling paint in two bedrooms.

The walls of each room had been recently painted. But, one room was painted a deep earthy green…and the ceiling was a pale pink. The other room was a purplish grey… with a pale blue ceiling. I think the ceiling colors were left over artifacts from previous paint schemes.

I knew when I was in each of the rooms that something was just not quite right with the ceiling, and that the color of the ceiling was at play, but I honestly did not know what color either ceiling actually was because the color was so subtle, and surrounded by bold wall colors. Also, both ceilings were painted with paint that had a measure of gloss to it, which means it showed every single imperfection in the paint job, or the ceiling.

Also, a quick note. There’s a reason you work from top to bottom. Painting ceilings after the walls are painted wastes time. But I didn’t have a choice in this case. So, once the ceilings were painted, I was forced to work my way around the perimeter of each room with a detail brush to set crisp edges.

This week’s big project was rejuvenating a butcher block kitchen island.
80 grit sanding pads were needed to bring this back to bare wood.

There was a black stain that needed treatment (a couple of times) and while it didn’t disappear fully, it lessened considerably with the black color disappearing.

This week had me changing out worn door k***s and locks. The front door got a snazzy new electronic lock. If you don’t have one, trust me, they are worth it!

The old k**b on the garage door left a few holes that will need to be filled with wood putty, and I had to drill a new hole in order to secure the bottom of the handle.

The garage door also required a little bit of work to fix the malaligned deadbolt hole so the deadbolt could properly engage.

The grading outside this basement door was all kinds of wrong.

So, I suggested my client bring in an excavator to correct the grade, allowing the pavers that were initially sitting far too high prior to grading to be re-set, below the door threshold.

Today, I set them and added a few more to provide a nice walkout space.

Today was a long day with many tasks, among them was prioritizing the gathering of plants needed for the concrete planters in front of my client’s house. Plants with more presence and color were needed rather than the very low growing sedum that was there. ACE just put their plants on clearance, so I knew I needed to move fast before options ran out.

In the end, I found Rudbekia, Lobelia, hyssop, and balloon flowers to fill the gigantic planters and lantana for the others.

Today ended in 100’s of sparkles- much of it due to Sarah’s (SolShine Cleaning Co. ) incredibly hard work. She sprayed, and steamed, and sprayed again, and wiped down hundreds of chandelier crystals all while on a ladder. It took hours.

I assisted however I could by hand washing the trays, strands of crystals, and wiping down lightbulbs. This chandelier is massive. I forgot to measure it, but it’s at least 1.5 of my arms across.

(The photo with the table in place was taken before we cleaned the chandelier, but it gives you a good sense of just how huge it is.)

The last two days have been *sweltering*. So, of course, I was working outside. 🙂

My client’s yard had necessarily taken a backseat given other priorities. Now, it’s finally time to spruce it up!

I weeded this side yesterday, and today I had a very long and difficult battle with not only a crêpe Myrtle bush wedged between a drainage pipe and the driveway, but also an unwanted privet bush. Both of which blocked the beautiful landscaping behind. I also took down several GIANT pokeweeds. I had no idea they could grow so tall! 🪓

As I was finishing up, my own awesome yard man, Isidro, came for the first time and really spiffed things up!

Tomorrow- I’m working inside! 🥵
