The easiest building security problem to relate to?
“One code for everyone.”

It starts as a quick fix for a vendorand ends with half the building knowing the PIN.

Then something happens in the lobby and nobody can confidently tell who came in, because shared codes kill accountability.

Quick fix you can start this week: unique PINs per vendor + expiration dates. Even access control experts warn that one common PIN is extremely vulnerable and recommend unique PINs and regular changes.

Access control isn’t only the door hardware.
It’s the list behind it.

We’ve seen buildings with great readers and “new” fob, but inside the system there are still old residents and vendors active from years ago, because nobody made credential cleanup part of the move-out routine.

That gets risky and expensive fast. A simple habit helps: monthly “credential cleanup” (inactive people, old vendors, duplicates). Even access-control vendors recommend removing inactive cardholders as part of routine database cleanup.

How we approach access control as a real process (not just hardware):

A lot of buildings treat the intercom like a “nice feature" until it becomes a compliance and operations headache.

In NYC, many apartment buildings are required to have an intercom system that allows residents to speak with visitors and unlock the front door remotely.

When the intercom is unreliable, the building pays twice: more workarounds (doors held, residents buzzing strangers, deliveries stuck) and rushed “emergency upgrades.”

Quick takeaway: before you replace anything, confirm what your building is required to have, and make sure the solution works for everyone, not just smartphone users.

Ever notice how cameras “randomly” reboot and it always seems to happen at the worst time?

We saw it this week: lobby cameras dropping mostly at night. Everyone blamed the cameras. The real issue was the PoE power budget, no headroom, so when night mode/IR increased power draw, the cameras started rebooting.

That mistake gets expensive fast: service calls, downtime, and missed footage.

Quick tip: ask your vendor what PoE headroom they’re leaving (you don’t want to run at the edge). And make sure everything is labeled, labels + documentation make troubleshooting way faster.

How we approach systems (planning + clean installs + documentation):

Quick story from a building: the “security system” worked… but the front door was still propped open every day.

Not because people don’t care, because entry was annoying. Intercom glitches, deliveries, residents rushing, and the easiest workaround wins.

That workaround gets expensive fast: more risk, more incidents, more stress for the building team. And if the door is supposed to close and latch (especially for life-safety), propping it open is exactly what safety experts warn against.

Want a simple fix to start with? Time the visitor entry process and look for friction, most problems are workflow, not hardware.

Here’s how LVD Group USA approaches entry systems so people actually use them:

A real issue we see in buildings: everything is “installed”… but nothing is truly managed.

Cameras don’t match the actual traffic flow. Doors get upgraded without thinking about visitor entry. Intercom works, until it doesn’t. And then the building is stuck coordinating multiple vendors.

The mistake is almost always planning (or lack of it). The consequence is expensive: repeat service calls, downtime, and frustrated residents.

If you’re planning an upgrade, ask for one simple thing first: a complete system map + labeling/documentation, so you’re not paying twice.

Friends don’t let friends hire bad security contractors. 🛑

You know the difference a pro makes. The clean wiring, the cameras that actually work when you need footage, and the team that cleans up after themselves.

LVD Group USA will be closed for Christmas from Wednesday, December 24th through Friday, December 26th. During these days, our office is on holiday, but our team is still available for emergency services only.

We know your buildings don’t “take a break” just because it’s Christmas. Guests are visiting, packages are piling up, and you still need cameras, access control, intercoms, and gates to behave.

So while our staff is spending time with family, an on‑call technician will be there if something truly urgent happens – like a gate stuck open, a critical camera offline, or an intercom failure at the main entrance.

Wishing you and your residents a peaceful, secure Christmas.
If you want to tighten your holiday plan before then, send us a message and we’ll help you think it through.

5 Access Control Mistakes to Avoid

Access control can either make your building feel organized and secure or turn into a constant source of tickets and complaints.

The difference usually isn’t the hardware, it’s the planning behind it.

Five mistakes to watch for:
1. Designing for “doors,” not for real people flows (residents, vendors, cleaners, deliveries).

2. No clear process for turning credentials off when staff or tenants leave.

3. Upgrading controllers/readers but keeping old, undocumented cabling.

4. Putting access devices on a flat network with weak passwords or open remote access.

5. Never checking logs or alerts until after an incident.

When LVD Group USA is involved early, these are exactly the things that get designed and documented – so your system is easier to manage and cheaper to maintain over time.

If you’re planning an access control upgrade, comment “ACCESS” and get a free audit.

In 2025, the biggest security headaches in buildings rarely come from the hardware, they come from rushed planning and missing standards.

Four simple best practices can change that:

1.Start with real scenarios: residents, deliveries, vendors, garage, after-hours.

2. Treat low-voltage like a utility: labeled cables, documented racks, room to grow.

3. Avoid “one more app” – aim to integrate cameras, access control, and intercom.

4. Define maintenance routines so issues are found before an incident, not after.

That’s where LVD Group supports property managers and HOAs in New Jersey, planning and maintaining systems that stay reliable, clean, and easy to manage over the long term.

If you’re considering a camera, access control, or intercom upgrade this year, send a message with “Best Practices” and get a practical checklist you can use with any vendor.

Heads up - LVD Group USA will be closed from Wednesday noon through Thanksgiving Day.

Here’s a real tip: holidays mean more empty buildings and fewer eyes on site. Last year, skipping a quick access control check led to a full day of tenant lockouts and extra service costs.

Our advice? Do a simple walk-through today. Verify cameras, update visitor codes, and make sure you know who can get in.

Questions? Reach out before Wednesday noon so you’re set.
