New Exterior Stain Job! Kleinberger Contracting, LLC built this deck and pergola last season. This Spring we stained it using our favorite outdoor wood preservative (Cabot’s Australian Timber Oil) in Honey Teak. The Australian Timber Oil has excellent pe*******on, rich color, excellent UV protection and does not peel, so re-staining is easy. It outlasts any other deck product we have used. It is an excellent product!
Why did we wait until Spring? Pressure treated wood is often bought from suppliers still wet with preservatives and needs time to dry out before applying other preservatives or stains. If you apply preservatives too soon to pressure treated lumber it will not fully pe*****te, therefore becoming less effective and potentially creating other serious problems. So let it dry!
Water Test! A general rule of thumb! If you are concerned about your pressure treated building project being too wet use the “water sprinkle test.” Apply a couple of drops of water on the wood you want to preserve and “time” its absorption. If it dries in under ten minutes, it is ready for treatment. However, if dry time exceeds ten minutes, wait and give the wood more time to dry.
