Meet your neighbors! The Variegated Fritillary, Euptoieta claudia, are starting to show up! While migrating north these beauties will lay eggs on pansies, violets, and violas on the way. The caterpillars, who look like the could fit in at a rock show, have an intimidating appearance but it’s all for show. This is to deter potential predators who might want them as a snack. Their most impressive phase(in my opinion) is the chrysalis. With the look of mother of Pearl mixed with leopard print they are always best dressed!
Have you seen any popping by your habitats?
The caterpillar and chrysalis photos are not our own.

Right after a nice rainstorm is the best time to get those deep taproots out of the soft soil, and not a single pollinator was harmed! Plus the chickens got an awesome treat of bind weeds!
Put down the spray bottle and let’s get dirty!
