Got a boring wall thats begging for a pop of color…even better a jazzy design?
We got 2 options…I can walk you thru how to do it yourself for free, or charge you to do it.
Now in fairness, I'm expecting you to call me to do it, but if you wanna take a stab at it, I got the recipe for you
Miter saw
Finishing blade
Paint
Wood glue
Laser level or at least a 6' level
Wood filler
Tape measure
1st let's get the overall dimension of the wall
Take the length and the width
Let's take the width 1st. Take that # and divide it by 2
If you have a laser level, put the vertical line along the middle. If you just have a regular level, take a pencil and mark center.
Whatever design you pick, the wall has to be symmetrical, so this is our starting point.
From here I'd take my level and use a light pencil to draw out the design.
You can also use Painters tape and make a pretty life like 2 d replica of what you're going for.
Take into account if you're planning to use crown moulding and baseboards
If you're changing the base boards, I like to install them 1st.
Rarely is anything perfectly square, even and symmetrical in a house that's been shifting for decades.
Trying to do blind math on where e your pattern will end and where the Baseboard will meet it can be a recipe for disaster.
You don't want to commit the design to the wall and find the materials are overlapping where they should just be meeting.
Now let's get ready to paint the design
Grab some Painters tape and precisely mask off the starting point of everything we're not painting. I've found the less expensive paper holds to the wall better than the thick red paper or the plastic.
Tape the paper to the wall and to the floor
Now you can paint.
I'd get a good coat of primer on everything 1sr, to give a nice base. From there anticipate getting 1 coats on, regardless of whatever the paint company says about using 1 coat.
Be mindful of the brushes and Rollers. When buying Rollers, buy the ones labeled "professional for smooth surfaces". Buy the professional brushes too.
There's a price difference of a few dollars, but it'll make a world of difference if you do.
From there , you're all set...go be great!
Feel free to reach out, if you get stuck. I'll be more than happy to guide you through it!
