There is SO MUCH value in a garden consult session. I’ve made mistakes in the garden, learned by killing my fair share of plants, and now have a clear idea of what is ESSENTIAL to success in a kitchen garden.

During our initial consult session we will
1. Determine the ideal location for the kitchen garden—based on sunlight, proximity to your home, and personal preferences
2. Understand the best plants for our area in Michigan and planting approach depending on your garden priorities—Aesthetics? Food production? Learning gardening as a hobby? I got you! 😉
3. Lastly we will review the design options for the kitchen garden and you’ll select your favorite—either DIY or turn-key, fully installed kitchen garden on your installation date! Sounds like a dream to me! 😊

Hi! I’m Rebecca—a mom, pharmacist, and homemaker. Together with my husband, Chad, we operate our homestead in Southeast Michigan, lovingly named The Bakers Acres Homestead. Over our many years of growing large gardens and massive amounts of food, we have had successes and failures and have learned so much about home-growing.

We started Grow and Gather Gardens because we feel called to lead a movement towards a more home-grown lifestyle. We have found so much fulfillment and pride in being able to tend to and harvest from the garden. We know where our food came from, what amendments were added to the soil, and can ensure organic practices were followed. We’ve also found such joy in watching the entire family get involved and enjoy working in the garden.

There are many reasons someone may want a garden and our goal is to build beautiful, functional gardens that truly improve peoples’ lives. ❤️🌻👩‍🌾🌱

Our garden designs and approach to gardening are based on kitchen garden principles.

Kitchen gardens differ in location, visual appeal, and function compared to traditional gardens.

Kitchen gardens:
1. Are located near where you prepare meals for convenient, frequent harvest
2. Function as a beautiful feature of your landscape or yard—they may even include a place to gather (hence, Grow and Gather 😉)
3. Promote healthy habits through gardening as a lifestyle

We’re officially doing a thing!

We’ve learned a thing or two about growing over the years. We have found there is nothing more rewarding than growing your own meal from seed or seedling to mature produce on your plate! We want to share these skills and homegrown lifestyle with everyone!
