Hey I want all black tile, all black grout and this funky window that transitions to a skylight, cool?

How much badassery can you fit in one bathroom?

It’s hard to pinpoint what’s stealing the show here. You have the Arcadia unit, that without traditional framing between mulls seamlessly transitions to a skylight in the master shower. The matte black penny tile that will wash all currently primed surfaces. Maybe it’s the teak floating vanity and linen closet, expertly crafted by our friends at A Carpenter’s Son (swipe, you’re welcome).

Actually- it’s probably Dave, whose arms haven’t been cold since 1983.

No- it’s a skylight, actually it’s both.

Between the skylight and window sits a piece of 1/2” steel and the two units are screwed and epoxied together in the field. Architectural and design intent drive complex engineering when the demand is maximum sight lines.

Elevator in a renovation?

Yeah, no problem.

Forever homes are our thing- and more often than not we’re having the elevator and accessibility conversation. Blocking in the bathrooms for ADA handrails, low or no barrier entry into homes, curbless showers, 36” doors- they shout luxury and whisper “you’ll be here a while, settle in”.

There’s more than one way to skin a cat.

If you think about the realism of expression, that’s a weird one. But it applies to air sealing as well, SIGA tape joining drywall to our window jambs aids in reducing drafts and fortifies our air sealing efforts. Pitched window sills flashed with zip (or WRB of your choosing) guarantee water passively sheds to the exterior instead of sit in the RO.

Backer rod and sealant work similarly, both applications allow air sealing and waterproofing measure to exist independently and be executed intentionally. Closed cell foam (the crap in a can) will suffice if you’re comfortable with surface temperatures, moisture content of the framing and its ability to cure- but you really can’t rely on it to cure and adhere sufficiently.
