The Art of Oshibana (押し花)
In Oshibana therapy, the flower is dried under pressure, keeps its color, shape, but becomes flat. The flowers combine the power of color and form. When flowers are placed in balanced floral patterns designed to strengthen body, mind, and spirit, they can become powerful symbols to aid in healing. Painting with elements of nature is therapy for the soul.

This art involves attention to nature during the entire year, attention and knowledge of the plants, and preserving them. A certain piece of this art is planned months earlier before being placed into frames. This art of nature is bestowed upon the viewer, with all the energy that has inside, each leaf, each petal or seed finds its perfect place in composition with precise accuracy. It truly becomes a work of love. The patience one possesses when growing with nature.

Wishing Our Family Lambda Theta, Phi Theta Kappa—Temple College a joyous
“Three Year Anniversary” week.

We have loved working with you all towards the vision of helping others, personal growth in our own lives, inspiring and learning every step of the way to fulfill a strong need in our community.

“When you are working towards a dream and helping others to realize their potential, the universe works alongside with you.”

So honored to be a part of building the new garden at Temple College in partnership with the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society to grow fresh produce for the campus food pantry. My inspiration, Esther Deans, 1977, an Australian pioneer of the No-Dig Gardening Method aka no-till no-plow Gardening Method. The Leopard food pantry on campus has provided fresh produce, thanks to a new project in 2019 started by the Temple College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), Wolfgang’s Garden and the Bell County Master Gardener Association ❤️

The garden has reaped a harvest totaling 752 lbs of fresh veggies within its first two seasons of growth. My goal was to create a manageable small space of 200 square feet; interplanting herbs, flowers and vegetables utilizing the space to its greatest efficiency while growing healthy plants, increasing the harvest, whilst adding color and texture to flowerbeds to support all pollinators and beneficial insects.

My last gardening day before moving to Dallas; working with the PTK students filled my heart and life with even more purpose.

I have been so blessed to work with such an impactful organization. Thank you till we meet again in the future. Keep growing!

Totem Thursday

This sweet tree frog 🐸appeared twice this week whilst gardening. Wolfgang named him Hamilton, he loves the Shish*to pepper plants, relaxing on a squash leaf, and is a natural insecticide/ predator 🌱that feasts on a variety of insects flies, ants, crickets, beetles, moths, and other small invertebrates.

Whether the Green Tree Frog appears in dreams, visions, waking life or synchronicities, it is a sign and message that a lot of what you’re working towards will begin to see fruition.

If you’re working towards freedom in some way or another, rest assured that your ‘ship’ has finally come. Be prepared for travel of some kind. These will be paid or compensated in some form or another.

Look forward to the future. Brighter days are ahead as you work and put your best foot forward, know that you shall make leaping changes that bring about your highest heart desires. Or, that which is in alignment with your highest calling/soul mission.

You are now being freed from a held-up past. Any chains binding you from seeing the truth will be lifted now. Any protruding obstacles preventing you from living your best life are now to be cleared.

If you are considering an ancestral clearing of any kind, this is a sign that it will benefit you. Know that you are taking the right steps.

It is the time to heal without procrastination, any blocked areas.

Practicing ‘The Art of Oshibana’
Oshibana (押し花) is the art of using pressed flowers and other botanical materials to create an entire picture from these natural elements. Such pressed flower art consists of drying flower petals, stems and leaves in a cast iron book press to flatten and exclude light and moisture. These elements are then used to "paint" an artistic composition. The origin of this art form has been traced to 16th century Japan, but it is now practiced worldwide.

“Wolfgang’s Garden Diary” so many lessons learned through success and failures whilst gardening.
Circa 2016 he was 3 years old when we decided to try the “No-Dig” gardening method inspiration from a book we read together by pioneer Esther Deans. Building of raised rows by hand, measuring planting spaces for beets and carrots with a ruler 😅(he learned numbers and counting this way), using well water to irrigate crops 💦, layering blackland prairie soil with fishbone meal, bone meal, feather meal, alfalfa meal, fish meal, kelp meal, & kelp flour, layering native wood mulch and/or straw hay bales from the farm to conserve moisture & act as a w**d barrier, and the result was a bountiful beet crop and charming carrots of many colors! Direct sowing of carrots and beet seeds are any day now. When checking your soil temperature for carrots should be a range of 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit. Soil temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit will stunt carrot top foliage growth. For beet seeds the soil temperature should be 85 degrees Fahrenheit and can be as low as 40-45 degrees Fahrenheit. Happy Gardening Everyone!

Wolfgang has a list of short day crops he loves to grow. Our little gardener’s pick of the day is Bok Choy White Stem and Bok Choy Tatsoi-Rosette. This heirloom variety loves to be directly seeded into the garden and grown in 45 days till harvest. Their succulent, sweet, tender and crisp leaves taste best when grown in the coolness of fall 🥬. Chef Corey from Megg’s Cafe in Temple, Tx loved using our asian greens in their asian salad 🥗and special ramen soup🍲. We love eating Bok Choy raw in salads and especially in stir fry dishes.

As we approach a cooler fall season of outside temperatures dropping below 80 degrees Fahrenheit and soil temperature drops to about 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit; the ideal temperature (50-75 degrees Fahrenheit) for cool season greens like Bok Choy, lettuces, spinach, & Swiss chard love to be directly sowed as seeds.
Happy Fall Gardening Everyone!
