Got an itch to reset my media console yesterday. We’re coming up on 3 years in this house this month and I haven’t hardly changed it since then, so it felt like it was suddenly time!

My partner and I love to travel and we love anime and illustrative tv shows and movies in general, and this new setup feels like it embraces that side of us extra.
We’ve been collecting coffee table books throughout our travels and lives and having a few more on display just feels so right!

One of my favorite parts of designing is creating spaces where your hobbies are displayed and show off your interests and personality.

I personally have a lot of different hobbies- don't all of us ADHD people?- and one of those is book collecting. I have 3 large bookcases in our bedroom for my own personal collection. (This doesn't even include the collection my partner has of his own, or our art books that we display in our living room. 😅)

Personally, I prefer to display my books by type. So poetry on one shelf, art and design books on others, and all my fiction and fantasy books on the rest.

One of my main techniques for displaying books is color coordinating. Not organizing in rainbow order, which I've seen people do- this is my second least favorite form of displaying books probably, after turning them all around so they're just pages out. But I choose books that are meaningful to me and then make sure that they are cohesive in color and style to the others on the shelf. I gravitate towards natural earthy colors and floral motifs, and this comes through in my book displays.

I also collect crystals, animal bones, enamel pins, and tarot decks, all of which get displayed on the bookshelves amongst my books. These help break up the shapes on the shelf and also add some visual texture to the smooth book covers.

My last technique with styling my shelves is to add art on top of them! Especially if your shelves are on big walls with high ceilings, this can help to extend the look of your shelves upward and help fill that extra space!

What's on my desk?

Here's my daily setup, with a list of a few of my favorite things to help me vibe while I work.

Most importantly, there is always a Dr Pepper, as that's my form of coffee, and a pile of journal stickers. I love to bullet journal and plan my week in advance, and creating journal spreads with stickers is one of my favorite hobbies.

My desk space is currently located in a cozy corner in my living room, at a wooden secretary desk that was handmade by my partner's grandfather when my partner was a child. It has such cozy energy and is right by a big window filled with my mostly-alive plants. The vibes are good, the energy is bright and creative, and it has given me such a nice place to work and create and design all at once.

I'm starting a new project in our home! Inspired by this tiger bath mat I purchased a couple months ago, I've put together this design to remake our guest bathroom on the main floor. This space has been a constant itch in my brain since we moved in 3 years ago, but I haven't been able to focus on it enough as a concept yet until just recently, as I had been working more on the big rooms in the house!
Now I'm thrilled to have finally nailed down the design!

The half bath currently has an awful "rustic" floor tile that's grey and "worn" intentionally and it just looks dirtyyyy all the time. And the walls are plain white with one accent wall in a basic grey color that really doesn't have any vibe to it. With just a mirror, a simple one cabinet vanity sink, and a toilet, there's not much else in the space or room for additional floor pieces, so instead we're working with the wall space to create a new and funky vibe. This idea comes from the fact that we use this as our guest bathroom when we have parties and it's sort of a selfie space since the lighting is great around the mirror (I frequently see my friends post their selfies in our bathroom online which is super fun!) So I want to make the space a proper ✨vibe✨ to go with that!

I plan to use peel and stick black and white floor tiles to upgrade the floor space. Color drench the walls, ceiling, door and trim in this stunningggg Fine Wine color from SW, and then fill out the walls with fun playful, tattoo-inspired art that also carries some great "resistance" style art (this is what I'm calling art that has a message about fighting back against our fascist govt 😅). Vintage brass fixtures will pull the look together and tie it in with our general home design which mixes moody, witchy dark decor with vintage, midcentury shapes and lines.

My partner and I are both big tattoo people, and I am even currently teaching myself to tattoo for fun, so this space is definitely intended to reflect that passion of ours as well.

I'll be posting more updates about this as I work on it. And I hope to even make some video content of it- which I am terrible at currently, so please bear with me as I learn how to do this!

Local Designs Inspirations:
The Madison Hotel, Bishop Arts

This historic-building-turned-hotel is one of the most beautiful little boutique spaces. It opened around 2.5 years ago I believe. I live nearby and it still took me probably 2 years to ever pop in and check it out. But here are some shots I got of the spaces.

Elements I love in this space:
✨Deep warm red walls in the common spaces- these feel so elegant, so moody, and so inviting and cozy. I think I just am currently obsessed with red walls right now! (I'm planning a new bathroom design that includes a rosy red too!)
✨They installed a custom diamond patterned runner up the stairs and it continues through the hallways upstairs as well. The bold black and white harlequin pattern with it's crisp border adds a romantic touch while lending to the blend of Baroque and Art Deco aesthetics used throughout the hotel.
✨GALLERY WALLS FOR DAYYSSS- The upstairs hallway that leads to the guest rooms is FILLED with incredible antique paintings and frames hung from a time-period-appropriate picture rail with brass chains. This creates an eclectic yet well-curated collection of interesting pieces to peruse while finding your room.
✨The wood archways in the common spaces 😻 I love these custom cased archways that were added on either side of the entry. The cocktail/sitting area created here is so cozy and inviting, but the wooden casing with this reeded glass really does something to my heart.

I highly recommend checking this sweet space out. Whether to stay or just as a visit to see the lovely designs, it's worth the time!

You ever realize you're terrible at using your social media for marketing your business? Or for just documenting your life in general? Me too. It's probably a symptom of burning out a few years ago, but regardless, I'm on mission to try to do better again. So I'm reintroducing myself!

This winter storm has Dallas shut down and it’s quiet in our streets currently, something I’m not taking for granted today. I spent it putting holiday decor away in between doomscrolling and journaling and drawing and constant stress and emotions about ICE actions across the country and all the loved ones that we are hearing and seeing more and more about being ripped from their lives.
Being home is one of my safe places and nesting definitely is one of my coping mechanisms for when things just seem too hard outside.
A loved one recently brought their mom over to see our home and she said it was “cozy” and she could see how my friend would love to spend time in it and it was the most honoring compliment. Cozy and safe are the two most valuable parts of a home and my heart is shattered for those who are being ripped away from theirs. Home is sacred. 🖤
