Lots of these beauties are blooming in the nursery right now! Most are already paired with an appropriate host-I choose hosts based on their growth habit (nothing that will quickly overtake and shade out the Paintbrush), similar growing conditions to the Paintbrush and also tend to favor contrasting colors for garden interest- but I also left a few of each species without a host so the customer can choose their own or plant the Paintbrush with a plant already living in their garden. Some of my plant babies living their best life in Plantzy Gardens and Designs landscapes!! I thought I loved seeing them in their little pots all lined up at our nursery, but now I know true nirvana is seeing them in these beautiful nature-scapes that Zak designs. 🤤😍

Happy Friday everyone! We are going to mark off parking along the street in the grass (in front of the mailbox) next to the fence. Once you park you’ll just walk down the driveway towards the big shop/garage at the end and you’ll see steps that will take you up to all the plants.

One final note- please keep in mind that we aren’t really set up as a retail nursery at this point, so don’t be afraid to find me or my partner if you have any questions or can’t find something you were hoping for. Most flats or groupings of plants only have one or two small nursery tags tucked into their pots rather than big, easy to read signage. I will have some blank tags, masking tape and a marker, so if you’re worried you’ll forget what you brought home, feel free to make a tag.

Hi all! Just a quick post with some notes on our upcoming open nursery event on Saturday. I meant to post this yesterday but these last couple of weeks have just been absolutely insane! Between filling multiple large orders, preparing for this sale, potting up plants that were busting out of their containers and getting ready for the summer heat by figuring out our irrigation plan, I decided to let myself off the hook on posting on schedule. So here goes-

First, please be aware that our little nursery is in a neighborhood, so don’t think you showed up to the wrong place when you see homes. Please drive slowly and carefully once you get onto the residential streets after turning off of Foster- it gets quite curvy and there are often people out walking their dogs and such (and several covies of California quail that sometimes cross the road unexpectedly!) and the road narrows in a few places making only room for one car.

Secondly, we unfortunately do not have a restroom available. Luckily there is a Safeway a couple blocks away, so I highly recommend stopping in on your way over unless you don’t mind using the great outdoors (which is what I do 😜).

And lastly, we had a banner year for native caterpillars on our plants this year (yippee!!!), so please be aware if you take home a Checkermallow (Sidalcea sp.), Lupine (Lupinus sp.), or one of the Cobwebby Thistles (Cirsium occidentale), there is a high probability that you will also be taking home a baby butterfly. I will try to point them out if you remind me. If you happen to choose one that has multiple cats on it, it may be smart to buy an extra one to be sure they have plenty to feed on while they grow.

We are still deciding how we’re planning to park everyone, so be on the lookout for one last post tomorrow with that info (I’ll also have some kind of signage and/or someone directing where to park).

Please consider bringing your own cardboard boxes if protecting your car is a concern- I have a bit but probably not enough for everyone.

And again, I’m so excited to see you all and looking forward to helping each of you choose your perfect plants!

Hi native plant friends!! I know a lot of you have been following our nursery's birth from the very beginning and have been patiently waiting for me to have a real update on our progress. We've been so focused on building our infrastructure, growing plants, collecting seeds, etc. (etc, etc, etc!!) that I haven't really had a spare moment to work on a page... but I think if I keep waiting until I have free time, it just won't ever happen! So, my goal for the next month is to post every Saturday and Wednesday. I haven't decided if there will be any rhyme or reason to those posts quite yet. A theme may arise, but for now it'll just be whatever happens to be on my mind or seems relevant for the nursery.

I'm going to start with a quick introduction!

Hi! I'm Kate. I am a lover and grower of Pacific Northwest native plants. This love affair began the same way I know it has for a lot of you. I love birds. Birds need bugs. Bugs need native plants. I still remember the moment the lightbulb went off in my head. Sitting in the parking lot of Safeway, scrolling through my phone when I came across an article on Doug Tallamy's Carolina Chickadee research (for those that aren't familiar with this research, just google Douglas Tallamy Carolina Chickadee and lots of articles will show up). Anyway, I've been hooked ever since.

So I'm the heart behind this little nursery (I'll introduce you to the muscle a little later). But none of this would have been possible without the endless support of this incredible community that I'm proud to be part of. And my family. Especially my mom, who has been Seablush's financial backer, secretary and tax accountant among other things. Jesse's mom and step father for so graciously allowing us to use their property to set up shop. Everyone who has pushed me to finally start this nursery, or purchased plants from us even when that usually means going to the trouble of reaching out multiple times before they can pin me down. There's just something so special about this community, and I'm honestly so grateful for all the friends I've made along the way.

I'm really looking forward to getting this little business off it's feet, getting more native plants out into the world, and hopefully getting to meet lots of you in the future! I'll be posting this Wednesday with information regarding a spring plant sale (I'm thinking Saturday, May 30th) at our nursery in Damascus, OR. Hopefully that will hold everyone over until I can get our website dialed in so that it can reliably take orders, at which point you'll be able to shop any time you feel like it!
