You know you spend a little too much time in your garden when your wheelbarrow not only has a face, but the face mimics exactly how you are feeling!!! 😂😂💐 I can now relate to Tom Hanks’ character in “Cast Away.” In fact, I may even name my wheelbarrow “Wilson.”

There was a surprise frost at our house last night. Late May can always be tricky! There was a 50 degree temperature difference within 48 hours! If you are contemplating planting your annuals outdoors be patient! Another week or so will not matter- plants always catch up. Luckily, my snapdragons made it through (they are the only plant I have placed outdoors so far because they are so cold hardy).

My baby plants are so happy this year!! I made one small change to my seed starting process and I think it has made all the difference. I bought a soil blocker from Johnny's Selected Seeds. The soil blocker makes beautiful, individual little squares to plant in eliminating the need for plastic, individual cell seed trays. I used the same type of potting soil, light set up, and timing of planting. The result I see is my plants are on sturdier stems and the foliage is incredible. The plants are stronger and they are not root bound which will cause less stress when I finally put them in the ground. The soil blocker is expensive, but will pay for itself in 2 seasons for my tiny farm. I am really happy.

Happy 2026!
Our winter rest is coming to a close. Today it’s almost 100 degrees inside my little greenhouse! Snow is melting, birds are singing, and next week marks the beginning of starting seeds! Over the course of the next month over 1400 seedlings will sprout in my living room. Sooooo happy spring is near.
