Sand is sand, right? Ask anybody who's set pavers on the wrong kind.
Two of the most common loads we move are Basic/Fill Sand and Mason/Brick Sand.
They look similar in the pile. They are not built for the same job, and grabbing the wrong one tends to show up later.
Basic/Fill Sand is the coarse, screened workhorse. It packs down tight and lets water drain through, which is exactly what you want under the things that have to stay put.
π Base prep under patios, walkways, and slabs
π Backfill around foundations, pipes, and utilities
π Leveling low spots and holding back erosion
Mason/Brick Sand is the fine, washed one. Smooth, uniform, clean enough to walk through barefoot. When the finish matters, mason sand is the one.
π Mortar mixes for brick, block, and stone
π Paver bases and joint fill
π Playgrounds, sandboxes, and lawn topdressing
Rule of thumb. If it's holding weight or moving water, reach for fill sand. If it's getting seen or getting touched, reach for mason sand.
