Well with the ice storm last weekend, crane numbers aren’t great and with expected 20+ mph winds with negative degree wind chills Saturday, we are gonna call it a season unfortunately. It certainly hasn’t been the season we had hoped for by any means, but at least we were able to get some of yall out there. We are thankful we were able to get a few good hunts in this season, and we apologize to those we couldn’t get out there. We are just as disappointed as yall are, but we want to thank everyone who got in touch wanting to go out with us this season! Without yall, we couldn’t do what we do. Now we just need the birds to cooperate a little bit better! Don’t forget, if you were awarded tags this season (whether you went hunting or not) you must fill out the post season survey by February 10, 2026. You should have received an email with the survey information, but you can also go here if you didn’t get the email.

Thank yall again for another season! We hope everyone has a blessed 2026!!

Kindest regards,

Nikki

Well we were able to get a couple of good quick hunts in last weekend, but with this warm weather the birds have turned cold again. The birds we still have aren’t having to feed away from the refuges when it’s like this. We are just gonna have to keep watching them to see when we may be able to hunt again. Reminder: January 16, 17, and 18 hunting is CLOSED in this SE Zone. If the birds will act right again, we typically try to hunt that Thursday before closure and the following Monday which is Martin Luther King Jr Day. Birds have to act right first though. I’ll keep y’all posted. Definitely not the season we had hoped for, but that’s part of hunting these migratory birds. 🤞🏼

Another pretty quiet weekend unfortunately. There were a few trading around but still not good numbers to have good hunts. The wind was super high this morning so that kept them laid down most of the day. We will keep yall posted. I sure hope Jan 1 brings us better luck!

12/24/2025

Well we had a good hunt Sunday, then scouted the last two mornings and the birds have decided with the warm weather to move on I can only assume back North since we had a pretty good north wind Sunday evening. Supposed to turn back cold next week, but gonna have to get some birds again before we hunt again. This weekend isn’t looking good thats for sure. On a brighter note, we sure hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your Double HH crew!! We are thankful for every single one of y’all! Maybe January will flip the switch for us and we can really get after some birds. Till then, we hope you all can spend some time with your family this holiday season! I’ll keep y’all posted on the birds as things change hopefully sooner rather than later!

12/20/2025

Here we go!!! Birds went from zero to several so we are breaking the ice and gonna start some hunts! Just a reminder for everyone, if you are on our list and you get your birds elsewhere, please just send me a text or call me to ask to be removed from our list. No harm no foul and I will congratulate you on getting your birds! As I start calling people on our list to fill spots in the blinds, if you get a call and I don’t get a response back, I will be moving down the list to fill spots and we can try again if we can’t connect before the spots are filled. I’ll try to wait as long as I can before moving on as I know everyone’s schedule is different, but I can’t wait forever for a call back. We are excited to get y’all out there for hopefully another great season!! We would still like to see more birds move in, but we feel comfortable in hunting what we have for a bit anyways. One last thing please remember to take your Sandhill crane ID test! You must pass this test with 100% to hunt. Let me know if y’all have any questions! Let’s get to work!! Here’s to season 9! 💪🏼👊🏼

12/17/2025

Another quiet weekend. Saw a few more birds today, but still have a long ways to go. 🤞🏼 we see more this weekend with the cold weather hitting.

12/10/2025

Still pretty quiet around here. There are some birds but most are still staying on the refuges or have continued south. Gonna have to see more out in the fields before we get rolling. We will keep yall posted! I hope this cold front moving in will send more our way and we can keep some birds off the refuges for a little while. 🤞🏼

12/01/2025

We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving spending time with their loved ones! As we wind down from a busy weekend, we just wanted to give everyone an update on the birds. Reminder, we are booked for the season and are NOT accepting anymore names for the list. Opening day is this week and unfortunately not looking great. We do have signs of life at least (a few hundred hanging out on the refuges so far) but we are far from the number we need to start hunts. We will be keeping an eye out this week for birds scattering away from the refuges, but until they do we will not begin our hunts. 🤞🏼 we start seeing more activity so we can get this season started! Good luck to everyone out there hunting and remember to stay safe. Shooting a bird certainly does not take priority over safety. Also don’t forget to make sure you have taken your Sandhill crane ID test before hunting as it is a requirement to hunt! Hopefully with this colder weather we will see some more birds move into the area. Until then, we will keep dreaming of these crazy birds! We will keep yall posted!

‼️‼️9:25pm eastern time UPDATE‼️‼️
The waitlist is CLOSED. If you got in touch with us before this time, we will honor your spot. Otherwise we will not be taking any more names to add to the list. Thank you to every single person who contacted us and we can’t wait to get after these birds with y’all!

8:15pm eastern time. Good evening everyone! For those who don’t know yet, tags have been announced! Congratulations to everyone who drew tags this season!! Thank you to all of you who have already got in touch with us to get on our waitlist. We appreciate every single one of you!

As a reminder, we are going to be handling our booking process this upcoming season a little differently. Going forward we will no longer be booking specific days for crane hunts. We are going to do a WAITLIST ONLY for our hunts. The hope with this is, when we have birds and we know we are going to hunt it will make our side of things a lot easier rather than having to call several people in the blinds with updates on birds just to cancel at the last minute because birds aren’t “great.” We still pride ourselves on being completely honest about the birds, but with that, we spend a lot of time that goes uncompensated when we don’t end up hunting. With the waitlist, when we know we can hunt, we will start with the first person on the waitlist to see if they can go and work our way down till we have a full blind. If you get a call and cannot go, you will NOT lose your spot on the list. We will start at the top and just work our way back down for the next hunt. We are charging $300/person this season. We are filling up fast and I will have a cut off on the waitlist so if you are interested please reach out as quickly as possible.

At this time, 8:15 pm Eastern time, I have returned all messages, calls, emails, texts, etc. so if you have messaged me and I haven’t responded, please reach out again. I have heard from several people that there are some Facebook messaging issues. I’m not sure what is going on, but if you sent a message and have not received a response please call my cell phone or send me a text at 423-443-1744.

If you have a spot on the waitlist and you fill your tags before we call you for a hunt, please let me know that you no longer need to be on the waitlist since you filled your tags elsewhere. No harm no foul as the whole point of doing this is to fill as many tags as possible! I just ask that you let me know so I can remove you and not waste my time or yours trying to call you when we have an open spot for a hunt.

Don’ forget, you must pass the sandhill crane ID test as well before going on a hunt. If you have any questions about that please let me know. You can can find the test at twra.state.tn.us/SandhillCraneTest

Thank you all again and we look forward to another season with y’all! Cheers to season 9! See y’all soon.

Nikki

Today is the day!!! Opening day to apply for the 2025-2026 sandhill crane permits. Today September 3, 2025 through September 24, 2025 you can apply through the Go Outdoors Tennessee page. Make sure you hit submit and I always recommended taking a screenshot of your confirmation page to have just in case. As a reminder, we are going to be handling our booking process this upcoming season a little differently. A lot of factors have went into this decision and I’m sure some won’t be happy with it, but going forward we will no longer be booking specific days for crane hunts. We are going to do a WAITLIST ONLY for our hunts. With the waitlist, when we know we can hunt, we will start with the first person on the waitlist to see if they can go and work our way down till we have a full blind. We will not start a waitlist until tags are announced for the upcoming season to keep things fair per usual. We wanted y’all to have this information before putting in for tags so everyone knows up front how we are going to be operating this season and can plan accordingly. I will make another post about this when permits are awarded as a reminder of how we will be booking this upcoming season. As always we appreciate everyone that gets in touch with us to go on one of our crane hunts and we look forward to getting y’all out there again this winter!

Good luck everyone!!

Nikki
