Today I looked at a fountain complaint in which polyamide epoxy was misapplied. The contractor didn't mix the B-side catalyst component with the A-side paint component. Therefore the fountain stayed and still remains tacky until this day.

The remedy for this is to get a putty knife and a cardboard box, and simply scrape the tacky epoxy off into the box for disposal and wash the remainder off with xylene.

After this has been done, simply apply 2 coats of properly mixed epoxy to the clean substrate. After 2 coats have been applied, allow 7 days for curing before filling with water.

Sometimes it's easier to apply a rust converter to a rusty substrate rather then removing all of the rust from it. Benjamin Moore's Corotech Rust Arrestor allows you to do this. After removing loose scale, you can apply it to tightly adhering rust. It goes on milky white and dries to a protective black low sheen film which will accept most topcoats.

Solvents from a wiping stain remained in the grain of the wood resulting in the flatteners contained in the waterborne finish coat turning milky. It's important to allow stains to dry completely and sometimes 2-3 days before applying a waterborne clear over them.

I'm upstarting a new page here that is designed to assess paint problems and various substrates and conditions, to help professional paint contractors. Many of these scenarios are situations I have been asked about and provided successful solutions.

This page is intended as a reference only. Every job is different - therefore the information provided is my personal advice in certain situations and I'm not responsible in any way for your job nor how it turns out. You should read all product labels and consult with your local paint dealer for job specific recommendations.
