Some things you just have to draw them.

A note doesn’t capture the way a window frames a view.

The Hunter’s Lodge primary suite.

A home in Pennsylvania, designed around a family’s tradition and the life they wanted to come home to.

Most mountain homes are missing this space

The Outdoor Kitchen Pantry is the space that makes outdoor cooking actually work without the mess ever reaching your main kitchen.
Think of it as a mudroom for your kitchen. Or a dirty kitchen with exterior access.

Everything that comes in from the cookout enters here.
The sink, the dishwasher, the full-size fridge and freezer, the storage for pantry goods and small appliances.

Directly behind the feature kitchen, with two entry points: one from inside, one from outside.
Between 200 and 250 square feet. Every inch doing something.

The cookout is done, and your guests are still at the table.
Everything comes in through the pantry, the door closes, and you get back to them.

The details that make a home feel like a five-star hotel are never the obvious ones.

Here are three things we love for every modern mountain home we design:

1. The Toto toilet.
It sounds like a detail.
It becomes something you cannot live without.

2. A Lutron system.
The home responds to you, not the other way around.

3. A whole-house water filtration system.
Softer water changes your shower, your skin, and the lifespan of every appliance connected to your plumbing.

Have you noticed your closet has one season, but your life in the mountains has four?

There is a difference between the clothes you reach for every Monday morning and the pieces you only touch on special occasions.
And then there's everything the mountain demands: the heavy coats, the snow boots, the gear that takes over your life from November through March.

Things I did as a young architect that now make me cringe:

① Treating furniture an afterthought.

I used to think furniture came after the architecture. Design the house first, fill it later.
It wasn't part of the design. It wasn't even part of the conversation.

My brother changed that.
Now we go to Salon del Mobile Milano every other year.

Every project, no matter the scope, has the right pieces designed in from the start.

② Thinking lighting was just about making a room bright.

That one took working with interior designers to truly understand.
The light you cook under is not the light you watch a movie in.

Every moment deserves its own atmosphere, which means every space deserves layers of lighting. 

Style takes time. Taste takes longer.

A 3,500 sq ft home can feel more luxurious than a 6,000 sq ft one.

We've seen it. We've designed it.

The difference isn't size. It's whether an architect was involved before the contractor ever showed up.

Contractors build.

Architects design.

Those are two completely different conversations, and most people don't realize that until it's too late to change anything.

Luxury is intelligent flow.

No wasted space.

Every room earning its place.

Views framed on purpose.

A home that fits your life instead of fighting it.

That's not something you can add in later. It has to be designed in from the start.

If you're planning a custom modern mountain home, don't hand your lot to a contractor and hope for the best.
