Was riding over in Rutherford County the other day and saw a chicken beside the road so I slowed way down. As I passed, the chicken started running, keeping up with my bike, and it looked like the dang thing had three legs. I went faster and faster and still it kept up. I was going 55 and the thing passed me! I saw it turn down a dirt road so I just had to follow to see what the heck was going on. At the end was a chicken house and a farmer standing there. I asked if he had seen a chicken run by and he said yep it was his. I said it looked like the chicken had 3 legs and he said yep it did. I was like say wtf? He said it took him years to breed them, it had started with a fight with his missus. He loved drumsticks and his wife did too, and then their son got old enough to love them too, and they were always fighting over the drumsticks, so he had the idea of breeding some with 3 legs. He calls them Rutherford Reds, he's been really successful breeding them. I had to ask what they tasted like, were they any good? He looked up and said Well I don't know, we ain't caught one yet. The things you see on NC backroads!
