Hey everyone,

As some of you know, I had a pretty nasty fall while gardening yesterday and ended up with spiral fractures in both my leg and ankle. I'm scheduled for surgery later today to get a titanium rod placed in my ankle.

Anyone who knows me knows how stubbornly independent I am and how hard it is for me to ask for help. But with surgery and a long recovery ahead, I'm going to be out of work for a while, and the medical bills and daily living expenses are already piling up.

I'm officially ready for Fall! I had some time this afternoon so I took a drive to FarmStand at Grant Farms just a little north of Wellington. I usually get my chiles in Pueblo but I've been so busy I couldn't find time for that kinda drive.. I was worried that it's later in the season so I thought I was out of luck and then I saw a post that they were roasting today!!! It was the perfect Fall day for a drive in the country! If you haven't had a chance to check them out you really should. The Grant family are the literal roots of Northern Colorado and have done so much for our community!

I'm not sure why but I can't open messenger on my business page, I can see I have a few messages but it just does the spinning wheel to nowhere trying to switch to business messenger. Anywho.. good thing I'm better at gardening than technology.. today I did a fall cleanup getting rid of the bindw**d and deadheading a few perennials but leaving some flower heads for the birds to snack on over the winter. Then I blew my clients leaves from her grass into the garden bed for a nice winter blanket for her plants and bug friends. and much to my delight my sweet friends live just down the block so they stopped for hugs and to check out Ruthies makeover.. Fruit pie counts as breakfast right? I had to stop at the Ace on Harmony in FoCo, so I decided to treat myself to a slice of Fruits of the Forest pie from Fiona's Deli, Bakery & Catering . So yummy!!

It's finally feeling like Fall.. I get all sappy and sentimental this time of year, and I'm extra sappy today. I want to extend all the gratitude from my Heart and Soil to the friends, clients and strangers who are now friends for helping me to get rolling again after my bucket of tools was stolen this weekend. It kinda feels like learning to ride a bike again with new tools but I'm deeply appreciative and humbled by all the love.. thank you! and here are some pretty flowers I cut for my client so she can have one last bouquet this season.

Transforming grass to a water-wise yarden! 🌿✨
​My dear friends wanted to ditch their thirsty lawn for a low-maintenance, water-wise garden, so we got right to work. We dug up the turf, laid down sheet-mulching cardboard (thanks Days Roll By-Reconditioned Bicycles & Repair and Uncle Tom), and built it back up with amazing soil from Colorado Materials, Inc. , rocks from SolMauna Creation + Design private Rockyard (huge thanks Arik!), river rock from Crystal Landscape Supplies and driftwood I collected from the Ojo Caliente river in NM.
​We finished it off with edging, mulch, and 2 Hugelkultur beds! They’ll be planting perennials next spring, but for right now, the Hugel mounds double as the perfect Halloween graves. 🎃💀
​So happy for my friends and their gorgeous new yarden! 🌾🪨✨

This yard project turned out so beautiful! My super sweet client needed help putting down landscaping fabric before installing 12 tons of rock. No, I didn't install all of the rock but was a part of a great crew of friends and family that showed up to help her get the yard she's been dreaming of for years! So happy for her and her sweet kiddos..

I'm absolutely gutted.. I got into my car this morning and discovered someone stole my bucket of tools.. that's how I make an honest living. These tools aren't worth anything to anyone but me. If you live in downtown Loveland and see my bucket on wheels, I will offer a generous reward!

On today's edition of "Why didn't I think of this sooner!?!!?" My bucket gets really heavy when it's full of tools and water jugs and stuff. And a lot of my clients have huge gardens far away from where I park. My shoulder has been killing me and I think it's probably largely in part from carrying this heavy bucket. I went on Facebook marketplace and found this dolly and so far it seems to be doing the trick!!

I think this might be the end of Summer! I'm ready and so is my dog. We spent the day snuggling and watching movies. Tomorrow and Friday look pretty cold but Saturday looks spectacular!
