I’m finally sharing a project that’s been personal for a long time.

I call her Home harvest. I built this indoor vertical garden because I’ve spent much of my life in small spaces, often relying on food assistance, food banks, and I got tired of food without flavor or fun.

I wanted to grow ingredients at home and actually use them. So I built this.

I’ll also be cooking with what I grow and sharing that too,, because the economy is rough, I love to cook, and being able to feed yourself at home matters.

Hi, my name is Delaney, and I am excited to share the beginning of my journey building HomeHarvest.

I studied mechanical engineering for several years, but due to financial hardship I had to put my life on pause. During that time, I faced extreme food insecurity while living in a 200 square foot apartment. That experience pushed me to design a sustainable indoor garden that could help people become less reliant on the food system we are given.

I would walk miles in the summer heat to reach food banks, carrying heavy cans and rejected meats. I was constantly frustrated by the lack of flavor and nutritional value in the food I was able to prepare. That frustration became motivation.

HomeHarvest is designed to grow the vegetables people actually need, tomatoes, lettuce, herbs, flowers, and more, all within a small living space. My hope is for HomeHarvest to help build community around food, whether that is with neighbors or complete strangers. That is also why I am designing an app to support the system, not only to help people grow what they need, but to connect them with nearby schools and food banks.
