If your electrical panel is over 40 years old, replacement is usually worth serious consideration — especially if the home has added appliances, HVAC upgrades, EV charging, or frequent breaker trips. Older panels can become both a safety and insurance issue.

This week we wrapped up a 26kW whole home generator installation! ⚡🏠
What’s involved in a whole home generator installation? Here’s a quick look at the process:
✅ We start by determining the generator location based on code requirements and the homeowner’s input.
✅ Once the location is finalized, we pour a concrete pad to provide a solid foundation for the new generator.
✅ Within about a week, we set the generator and begin the installation process.
✅ Installation includes adding a transfer switch near the meter base. This transfer switch acts as both the home’s service disconnect and allows for automatic power transfer between the utility and the generator.
✅ We install new service cable from the transfer switch to the home’s main panel. Per code requirements, this includes a new 4-wire cable along with two new ground rods for updated grounding.
✅ We also install power and communication wiring between the transfer switch and generator. This allows the generator to communicate with the transfer switch and supply power during outages.
✅ Once all connections are complete, we commission the generator and test automatic transfer operation from utility power to generator power — and back again.

Service upgrades have been the name of the game these past weeks. Swapped out a few fuse panels and came across an old GE panel. ⚡🔌
We had the privilege of assisting Southside Pole and Auger Service down in Rescue VA with a well-house power upgrade, new pole, meter base, 100-amp panel and cleaning up the electrical layout. 🔌
We installed a service to a garage for another great customer. ⚡💪🏼
