When you dahlia too much you get sick. 😷
Sick of their drama!

The culling, the fertilizer, the pest, the gall!

I love these Greenhouse Megastore pots and holding trays. I have tubers and cuttings in these 4.5" pots. Some will continue to grow in them as sink pots for the season. Others will eventually be planted out in the garden when I backfill planting spots due to rot or culling.

The trays are designed to hold the pots in place. However, they are not heavy duty and can easily break. It works best to use in place. I am pre-sprouting the tubers. This ensure 1) no gall /virus 2) no blind tubers. Once the sprouts are a few inches tall, I will plant them in my very last 8x4 raised bed.

love strolling the garden after a nice cooling rain. The plants are happy, the birds are chirping and the smell of mother earth just heals the soul.

And so it has begun.

The battle against the moles/voles, mister groundhog, beetles and slugs. My dahlias cannot grow in peace.

The last of the dahlias arrived this week. A mix of rooted/unrooted cuttings and tubers. Thanks to all my wonderful dahlia friends who opened their hearts and their gardens.

I always like to treat my friends in kind so once the garden gets growing, I can't wait to return the favors.

On another positive note, 40 more cuttings got planted today. Hopeful that this weekend is the last weekend of planting except for our stragglers.

I'm really looking forward to bloom time. So many beautiful varieties this year to πŸ“Έ. Most excited to see Coorabell Amy and Lonny. 😍

Pretty windy out, we are on tornado watch.
I'm more stressed about the plants breaking than anything else πŸ˜†

It's time to release those good bugs! I won't say I'm organic but I do my best not to spray outside during the growing season to protect the pollinators. IF I do need to spray, I do so on just the affected plants.

We know how important it is to keep our plants healthy. I have already applied beneficial nemotodes earlier this season. The ladybugs and lacewings will help you battle the bad guys!
