Did you know appraisers measure a home from the outside of the walls? 🧱

Brick adds about 4 inches of thickness all the way around, and on 300 ft of perimeter, that’s roughly 100 extra square feet. At $300 per sq ft (just an example, values vary by market), that can offset the cost difference between brick and fiber cement. Add in the thermal mass and a wall that lasts, and this is why we always recommend brick. Every appraiser measures a little differently, so ask yours!

Same piece of paper, two different paints. 🔥 The flame burns right through the latex side, then self-extinguishes the moment it reaches our KEIM mineral paint. Why? Latex paint uses an organic, petroleum-based binder, which can act as fuel for a flame. Keim Mineral Paints & Stains is made with a mineral silicate binder instead. It’s inorganic, so there’s nothing in it to burn, and it chemically bonds into the surface instead of sitting on top as a film. This was such a fun and easy experiment and just shows how insanely cool mineral paint is!

Yes, our bulbs are flicker free!
Every LED bulb has a small driver inside that converts AC power to DC, because LEDs can't run on AC directly.

When that driver doesn't smooth the power well, the light flickers. Ours uses proper capacitors to keep the current steady between the AC peaks, so the light stays steady. They also work with your body's natural circadian rhythm, which helps you sleep better, and constant flickering isn't overloading your nervous system. Plus low blue light and a 99+ CRI so colors look true.

Wrapping up October with progress on three builds! 🏡 At Lot 76, electrical and plumbing are installed, the chimney is finished, and we’re getting ready for the roof. Over at Lot 43, framing has begun, and out in Travelers Rest we poured concrete footings and waterproofed the foundation. Three builds at three different stages, and every one is coming together beautifully.

A shower window is only as good as its waterproofing. We integrate our Schluter waterproofing system all the way to the window and around the curb, keeping moisture out for good.

We’re sharing the three areas most prone to water intrusion and how we combat and protect the home at these often overlooked failure points. The sill plate, window penetrations and the eave’s.
We all know why waterproofing is important, but why air seal all these areas so tight?
Because we want to be in control of what air enters the home, at what rate, and when. We accomplish this through a balanced fresh air intake system.
