Wrapped up a big one this week. We were blessed to build this chimney for some amazing people that are always a pleasure to work for. Also blessed to work alongside my oldest brother Rajee with a few guest appearances from the nephew AJ and my longtime friend Robert. This chimney is truly handcrafted and I’ll always remember working on this one.

Building the heart of a chimney. This is the start of a masonry fireplace. Your firebox should be built 8” thick solid, and atleast 2” of that being firebrick lined, with a 2” air gap between framing and outer wall of firebox. On this firebox we will have the equivalent of 12” thickness with 4.5” lined with firebrick. The air space between framing and firebox is 3”. A little extra never hurt. The face of this fireplace will be full bed white limestone rocked around 8’ high and sheetrock to the ceiling. The chimney will be a class A chimney the remainder of the way up. It’s also getting a wrap around hearth extension and a 180 year old hand hewn mantle to complete the facewall.
